December Nail Artist of the Month: The Base Coat

9:00:00 AM

Good morning polished world!  How are you today?!  I know I've been quiet on the blog lately!  I found myself smack dab in the middle of a nail art funk and couldn't create a decent manicure.  Now I've had 3 good ones in a row, and after last nights manicure, it is safe to say my funk is over and I'm back!  Well, except for today!

Today I'm handing the blog over to the lovely Alicia from The Base Coat, who is the December Nail Artist of the Montht!  I discovered Alicia's blog on Facebook!  Seriously, such an amazing artist who needs to be showcased!  I'm so happy to be featuring her!

Everyone, I'm pleased to introduce you to Alicia!

Hello everyone!

I would like to thank Alaina for asking me to be the Nail Artist of the Month for December! I was super excited when she asked me, and I am so excited to share my nail art with you!

My name is Alicia, and I blog as TheBaseCoat. I started doing my nails in 2010, and at that point it was mostly just one color - no nail art. Slowly I started getting into nail art about a year later, and now I am obsessed!

Winter is such a beautiful time of year, and I just love winter themed nails! I've decided to share with you one of my favourite winter manicures - Penguins!

For this manicure I used:
  • Base blue glitter: Picture Polish Super Styling
  • Black: Essie Licorice
  • White: Zoya Purity
  • Orange: Essie Roarrrrange
  • Medium size dotting tool
  • Small size dotting tool
  • Small nail art brush
To recreate this manicure at home is really easy!
  1. Start with your favourite base coat and add two coats of a blue glitter polish.
  2. Using a black polish, paint a strip of polish down the center of your nail, staying away from the cuticle and edges of your nail. This is similar to creating a ruffian manicure!
  3. Once step 2 is dry, do the same with the white polish, but start a little further down the nail so you have space on the black for the penguins eyes. Using the medium dotting tool, make two white dots for the eyes.
  4. Using the small dotting tool, make two black dots in the white dots for pupils.
  5. Using a small dotting tool or a small nail art brush and the orange polish, make two half dots on the tip of your nail for feet. Also add a small triangle for a nose!
  6. Add some white dots in the background for snow! Seal in your creation with a good top coat!
I hope everyone likes my nails and I would love to see your recreations on Instagram! Use #thebasecoat and I will check out your penguin nails (:

Thank you again for featuring me as the Nail Artist of the month! I hope everyone has a great December!
