The One That I Meant to Post on Thanksgiving but Forgot

Good morning Polished World!  How are you all doing today?  I cannot believe that I didn't post today's manicure on Thanksgiving like originally planned.  Reason being - I got caught up in the holiday prep and the holiday itself that I didn't have time to edit the photos.  And you'd think that since I took time off of work I would have time, but nope.  I actually have used most of that free time to catch up on some much needed sleep!

Anyways, today's manicure is a fall-themed pumpkin manicure perfect for Thanksgiving.  The manicure itself didn't last until Turkey day because due to the food prep, I chipped half the nails off.  Figures, right?  At least I just spent the day with my immediate family who don't look forward to seeing my nails.

Let's take a look!

Colors Used:
  • Jessica Cosmetics - Mysterious Echoes
  • OPI - My Vampire Is Buff
  • NYC New York Color - Fashion Queen
Holy crap is Mysterious Echoes a gorgeous polish.  I used three coats because I really wanted the dark, fall, vampy look.  Depending on the lighting this polish can go from a deep plum with purple tones to dark red tones.  It truly is gorgeous.  Reminds me to use some of my vampy, darker colors more often.  You can use two coats but again, I wanted three.

Fashion Queen is the perfect coppery glitter which really accented this manicure well.  It was perfect for my little pumpkin.  It layered nicely with two coats on the middle finger, and then just one coat for the pumpkin.  The best part, it removed like a dream.  Love when you don't have to fight with a glitter polish!  I was surprised too because it had larger and smaller flecks in it.  Usually those are a pain to remove.

What do you think? Fan of this manicure?

Hope Everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Until next time, <3.

China Glaze

The One With the Purple Floral Manicure

9:00:00 AM

Hey everyone!  Welcome to Tuesday.  You know, a whole week since I posted on the blog, yet again.  I had such great intentions last week to get on a normal blogging schedule, then it happened.  I fell Tuesday morning at work spraining my ankle and giving myself a mild concussion.  On top of that, the night before, I scratched my cornea while taking my contact out.  It was safe to say I was a hot mess.  The blog was the last thing on my mind.  I did end up taking a four day weekend to recover so I feel like I'm back and ready for action.  Maybe.  We shall see.

Today's manicure is a pretty purple floral design.  Honestly not too sure how I liked this manicure.  I imagined the florals looking a little different than they do.  Mainly that little peach flower is bothering me.  I feel like it should have been outlined in black like the other flower.

Oh well, let's take a look!

Colors Used:
  • China Glaze - Let's Jam
  • NYC Color - NY Princess
  • Acrylics
I think I should have done two of the outlined flowers.  I should figure out how to paint my thumb nail because that one was my favorite.  Even the little pink/peach looking flower looked better.  It's because it's a larger canvas and there's more room to make things look better.  I feel that's kind of a lie but I'm telling myself it to make myself feel better.

I do love how Let's Jam paired with that purple jelly NY Princess.  I kind of like doing a different colored accent nail instead of just silver or gold.  Of course as I type this, I have a silver accent nail on.  Shocker, right?

What do you think?  Like this purple mani?

Until next time, <3.

Flowers

The One With the Negative Space Daisies

9:00:00 AM

Good morning polished world!  How are you all doing today?  I apologize for slacking on posting, but it's been the BUSIEST week.  I know I'm saying that more and more frequently, but I'm not lying about this week.  There have been at least 2 nights that I worked until 7pm, then two nights ago I came home from work and had the WORST migraine.  It was so bad, I had never felt anything so horrible in my life.

Here I am though, feeling better, my injured nail is grown out, and ready to nail art and post more regularly.  Yes, you heard that right, my injured nail has FINALLY grown out and I'm able to paint it without having to throw a pound of glitter over it.  I wanted to paint them two nights ago but the migraine was so bad that I was shocked I was able to get a swatch on them.  It's been a week since I've done nail art and I think tonight I'm going to do something intense since I haven't in so long.

Anyways, let's take a look at one of my last designs before I went on my swatch spree while the injured nail regained it's shape.

Colors Used:
  • NYC New York Color - Copabanana (I think, I honestly cannot remember and I'm too lazy to go get it out and check)
  • Serendipity Polish - Holoday Lights
  • Acrylics
Oh how I have missed the negative space designs.  Now that my nail is has grown out, there are so many that I want to do.  Especially since lately I feel I'm seeing a lot of them pop up on Instagram.  BadGirlNails posted one the other day that was to die for and I have been wanting to re-create it.

What do you think?  Fan of this look?  Do you think I should do all of the negative space designs?

Until next time, <3.

The One With the St. Patrick's Day Manicure

9:00:00 AM

Good morning polished world!  How are you all doing today??  It's Thursday, which means my work week is almost over, then the weekend will be here and gone before I know it.  Saturday is St. Patrick's Day, and I was hoping to be able to do one more manicure, but I don't think I will have the time.  Therefore, today's design is the one that I will hopefully still have on my nails Saturday.  You know, if it doesn't chip and get destroyed before then.

I wasn't really sure for what to do for my final design this year.  I always feel like I do the same thing over and over again, so I took to Pinterest.  Surfed around a while and found a few designs that I liked.  So I took inspiration from a bunch of them and re-created them!

Let's take a look!

Colors Used:
  • ORLY - Champagne Slushie
  • NYC New York Color - Queen's Jewels
  • Acrylics
Champagne Slushie is a gorgeous champagne gold polish which covered completely in two coats.  I didn't wait long enough to let the coats dry because I was kind of impatient, so I had a little bit of bubbling, but it was covered by the design mostly.

Queen's Jewels is beyond gorgeous!  Two coats of this crelly green glitter polish.  Truly does look like a jewel on my nail.  Kind of not looking forward to taking it off.  It's probably going to be a huge pain in the behind.

What do you think?  Fan of this manicure?  Sufficiently festive?

Until next time, <3,

Dot Mani

The One With the Negative Space Flowers

9:00:00 AM

Good morning polished world!  How are you all doing today?  It's Saturday and usually I get to sleep in, but sadly, today I am off to work.  Okay, I'm not too sad about it because we have this huge annual picnic and it should be quite fun.  I am a little sad that I'm missing my day to sleep in, but what can you do.  There's always next weekend.

Today I'm sharing with you the manicure I wore last week on my birthday.  This year I opted to not wear a cupcake design and instead match the polka dot dress I wore.  Well, actually, I ended up wearing a really cute pair of polka dotted pants, and the day after wore the dress because the weather ended up being cold, but whatever.  It all worked out.

Let's take a look!

Colors Used:
  • NYC - Tropicoral
  • ORLY - Gumdrop
  • ORLY - White Tips

It's super cute, right?  The dress is a coral dress with white polka dots, which literally matches my middle finger.  I put the bottle of Tropicoral on the dress and you couldn't tell the difference at all.  I forgot about this polish and am happy I re-visited it.  I always forget about NYC being a brand because it's not ever at any of the stores I go to.  Actually, I haven't gone to a beauty store or drug store in a long time.

I love negative space floral designs.  I am surprised it's taken me this long to create one this year.  I always thought it would look weird since I have an odd nail line, but you really can't tell because the design hides it.

What do you think?  Fan of this design?  Fan of the negative space floral?

I'm off to enjoy the picnic, then possibly go buy all of Sally Beauty Supply for a job well done.

Until next time, <3.

FingerPaints

The One With FingerPaints Lavender Love

9:00:00 AM

Good morning polished world!  How are you all doing on this fine Saturday?  We just had 60 degree temperatures, and now it's dropping into the 30s and we are supposed to get 3 to 6 inches of snow.  Only in my town this would happen, but oh well.  I kind of think it's pretty when it snows and the daffodils are peaking out bloomed. I'll try to snap some pictures and share on Instagram if it really does happen, because let's face it, 9 times out of 10 the meteorologists are wrong.  Maybe it's some awful April Fools joke.

Today I am sharing with you a recreation of this manicure by 25 SweetPeas.  I love lavender so so much.  It's one of my all time favorite colors and unfortunately my nail polish collection is severely lacking this color.  Every time a lavender is released in a collection, I run to the store for it and it's the first that is sold out.  It must be everyone's favorite.

So when I received a bottle of Lavender Love by FingerPaints from the new Ashley Tipton Collection, I nearly jumped for joy.  I need to go by Sally Beauty and buy out their stock because this polish is perfect.  I'll talk about it more after we take a look at the manicure!

Colors Used:
  • FingerPaints - Lavender Love
  • NYC New York Color - NY Princess
I am absolutely in LOVE with this shade!  FingerPaints, you've yet to disappoint me with a polish.  Two coats and full coverage, which with pastels can be difficult.  No streaks, no patchy spots, no bubbles.  Absolutely perfect colored polish with a perfect formula.  It might be similar to China Glaze Lotus Begin color wise, but formula wise, FingerPaints wins.  I might swatch a comparison for everyone and post it on Instagram.

I also love NYC New York Color in NY Princess which is on my ring finger.  These polishes were released last year as part of the Fashion Queen Collection.  All the polishes in this collection where glitter packed jelly polishes.  Also known as, jelly sandwich in a bottle.  Three coats for my manicure but you surely could get away with two coats!

What do you think?  Do you love lavender as much as I do?

Kind of loving the flowers on this one now that I look at it more as I type this.  They are supposed to be roses, but kind of look almost like carnations.  Maybe?  I don't know.  Regardless, I love it.

Until next time, <3.

Twinsie Tuesday: Re-Create another Twinsie's Mani

9:00:00 AM

Good morning polished world!  How are you all doing today?  I'm feeling a tad better and am happy to be back to blogging.  Hopefully I won't be sick again for the rest of the year.  I'll hold my breath on that.

Today is Tuesday which means it is time for another Twinsie Tuesday.  Today we are re-creating a manicure another Twinsie has created.  I have been itching to do a Halloween manicure so I decided to look at all the other Twinsie's Halloween manicures.  After much searching,  I found this manicure by retired Twinsie Elizabeth from Did My Nails.  I haven't done an ikat design in forever so I had to try it!

Let's take a look!

Colors Used:
  • NYC New York Color - Jacaranda Flower
  • FingerPaints - Tie Dye Tangerine
  • Orly - Thrill Seeker
  • Orly - Instant Artist - black/white
Love, love, LOVE how this manicure turned out.  I'm going to have to do some more ikats in the near future.  I forgot how easy they are to do!  To get the look, I started off with a base coat of whichever color I wanted.  When it was dried, with my white striper I went through and I created the center of the ikat.  With my black striper, I then outlined all of the ikats.  I then went through with my polish and added the center color, and then finished off with a few stripes of the black.

I love the Halloween color combination.  I wasn't sure when I saw Elizabeth's if I was going to like it on my own nails, but I really did.  I need to start using more orange polish.

What do you think?  Fan of this look?

Don't forget to check out the other Twinsie's manicures!

Bestie Twin Nails with Fashion Footing: Round 13 & Giveaway!!!

9:00:00 AM

Good morning polished world!  How are you all doing today?  I'm excited to be back posting with Amanda from Fashion Footing for our 13th round of Bestie Twin Nails!  Can you believe we have been doing this feature for a year now?!  I don't know where the time went!  To mark our one year anniversary, we are holding a giveaway!!!  Let's talk nails, then we'll talk giveaway!

For our manicure this time, we were inspired by this butterfly manicure by SensationalNails4U on Instagram.  I had never seen a gradient monarch wing like that and I was just dying to attempt the design.  I'm sure Amanda wasn't thrilled that I picked such an intricate manicure, but she was a good sport and agreed to it.  Unlike me who refuses to do glitter placement....ever.

Let's take a look!

Colors Used:
  • NYC New York Color - Jacaranda Flower
  • Zoya - Micky
  • FingerPaints - Frosty Lemonade
  • INM - Northern Lights
  • Black and white stripers
I started off with a base coat of white polish.  When it was dried, I sponged on my gradient using Jacaranda Flower, Micky, and Frosty Lemonade.  When the colors looked how I wanted them, I added a top coat of INM Northern Lights because all gradients demand this gorgeous glitter.

I then went through with a black striper and added the monarch wings.  I've done this design a few times before, but this is my all time favorite!  I swear the others never turned out this well.  I ended up keeping them on for about five days!  I never keep manicures on that long, but I literally loved these!

What do you think?  Fan of this manicure?  Something you would try?

Now for the Giveaway.  To celebrate our one year anniversary of Bestie Twin Nails, Amanda and I are both providing prizes for this giveaway.

My prize is:

Three Sally Hansen Pearl Crush and Xtreame Wear Polishes!  The colors are: Shell & Tell, Babe Blue, Rainbow Fish, Big Teal, Lady Crab, and Mauve Over.

Amanda's prize is:

A Rollin' In Cashmere OPI kit, and KB Shimmer Men are From Marsala and Up and Cunning.

To enter, use the Rafflecopter widget below.  You must be 18 and older to enter, US only.  NO GIVEAWAY ACCOUNTS.  Giveaway will be open for two weeks.  Two winners will be selected.

Purple Floral Nail Art

9:00:00 AM

Good morning polished world!  Happy Sunday.  Goodness, another Sunday.  Where did the weekend go??  I feel like there aren't enough hours in the days anymore.  Time needs to slow down!

Well, Spring is in the air, and I'm not upset that winter months flew by.  Now that it's Spring, I've been addicting to floral designs.  I have had to stop myself and remember there are other types of manicures other than floral ones!

Today I am sharing with you a purple floral design I did a few weeks ago.  I want to call them roses, but they kind of look more like carnations.  Regardless, I love them.

Let's take a look!

Colors Used:
  • Sinful Colors - Snow Me White
  • OPI - You're Such a Budapest
  • NYC New York Color - Jacaranda Flower
  • FingerPaints - Grassy Knoll
  • Zoya - Josie

See how they kind of look like carnations and not roses?  I think that is because of the complete outline that I did around the flower.  Typically when I do roses, I just do a few messy lines to resemble the petals.  This design has more of a uniform look which makes the flowers different.  I really don't know how to explain it.....

I think all these colors worked wonderfully together.  Each polish is magnificent for nail art as well.  I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to use Jacaranda Flower to create the dark purple details because it is a quick dry polish.  Typically quick dry polishes get goopy and are really hard to work with when it comes to making lines.  I am now sold on these In a Minute NYC polishes for nail art.  Cheap with dozens of colors = one happy nail art Alaina.

What do you think?  Fan of this manicure?  Roses or carnations?

Have a great day!  Until next time, <3.

Easter Bestie Twin Nails with 25 Sweet Peas!

9:00:00 AM

Happy Sunday polished world!  Hope you all are doing well today!  It is officially one week until Easter, which means I'm going to try to squeeze in as many Easter manicures as I can this week!  I'm off to a great start today with one, and already have one scheduled for Twinsie Tuesday!!!

Today I am doing some Bestie Twin Nails with Sarah from 25 SweetPeas!  I bet you all were expecting me to say that I'm doing them with Amanda from Fashion Footing, but not today.  In a few weeks we are going to be having our monthly collaboration.  We already picked out our design, and it's going to be awesome!

After I featured Sarah on the blog as the March Nail Artist of the Month, I suggested that we do a Bestie Twin Nails post together, and she agreed!  Since Easter is right around the corner, it was only fitting to do an Easter design!  We recreated this design which I found on Pinterest.

Let's take a look!

Colors Used:
  • NYC New York Color - Jacaranda Flower
  • Funky Fingers - Mrs. Mint
  • FingerPaints - Silver Bells
  • FingerPaints - Sterling Sculpture
  • White acrylic
I cheated, I used white acrylic paint for my bunny and dots.  It was late, I was sleepy, and it was the easiest away to create a design that was somewhat perfect.  I love using acrylics, but when I've found when they are at the base of the nail and if you do not wrap the end enough with top coat, it will chip off very quickly.  I probably could have gotten a full three days out of this manicure if it weren't for the chipping white and the chipping Mrs. Mint.  Love that polish, but hate how fast it starts to wear!

My silver nail wore like steel.  FingerPaints has hit a home run with their glitters.  Silver Bells was part of their winter collection and is a fine micro glitter.  In two coats, I have full coverage which does not want to come off.  I added a top coat of Sterling Sculpture which added the larger flecks to the nail.  Loved the combo and will have to do it again soon!

Jacaranda Flower is one of my favorite purples.  I used it for the daisy manicure I currently have as my default photo on Facebook and Twitter.  It's a perfect purple which applies evenly in two coats.  I'm sad that it was part of a limited edition collection so I cannot snag another bottle.  Hopefully I will find a dupe of it soon.  I'll probably head on over to Sarah's blog to see what she used for her purple because it looks pretty close!

Side by side shot courtesy of Sarah!

What do you think?  Fan of this design?  Something you think you would try for Easter?

Make sure to head on over to 25 SweetPeas and see her post!  You can also see her design on Instagram and Twitter!

Until next time, <3.

Christmas

Christmas Light Manicure

9:00:00 AM

Hello and Happy Saturday everyone!  Christmas is only a few short days away!  Can you believe it?!  I swear Thanksgiving was last Thursday.  Time got away from me and I was unable to create a Christmas Nail Art wheel for this season.  Oh well, maybe next year.

Despite not creating a new wheel, I have been a busy little bee creating some Christmas themed manicures.  Yes, I've done most of them before, but I'm trying my best to do new and different versions.  So far I think I'm doing well.

For today I decided to re-create my Christmas light manicure.  In previous years, I have done a white gradient on my naked nail to look more like snow.  This year, I decided to skip the gradient and just paint my whole nail white.  I cannot tell you how much I love this version, which contained lots of glitter!

Let's take a look!

Colors Used:
  • Base
    • Sally Hansen - Omghost
    • Sally Hansen - Disco Ball
  • Lights
    • Black Acrylic
    • NYC New York Color - Ruby Queen
    • NYC New York Color - Queen's Jewel
    • NYC New York Color - Blue Majesty
    • NYC New York Color - Fashion Queen
Awesome, right?  I started off with a base coat of Omghost from the Sally Hansen InstaDri collection that came out for Halloween.  Even though it has a Halloween name, it's a white polish and can be used any time of the year in my opinion.  My review of it is the same as it was then, a very nice white polish which applied evenly in two coats.

When my white was dry, I added a top coat of one of my favorite glitter toppers, Sally Hansen Disco Ball!  This topper is from the Hard as Nails line and is a must have.  It is a small cellophane glitter which creates such a gorgeous sparkly effect no matter what color it is over.  I love it over white because it truly makes the base look like snow!

When everything was dry, I used my nail art brush and painted on the black string and outline of the bulbs using a black acrylic paint.  When my outline was complete, I went through with the various NYC New York Color glitters and filled in the bulbs.  These polishes were PERFECT for light bulbs.  Since they are jellies, they filled in the small area perfectly, and the glitters sparkled right through the colorful base.  When you look at my nails in real life, they twinkled like real Christmas lights!

What do you think?  Liking the look?  Something you would recreate?

Hope you all have a great day!

Until next time, <3.

Bow Mani

Bow Manicure with NYC New York Color NY Princess

9:00:00 AM

Happy Sunday everyone!  How are you??  My weekend is going by way to fast, as usual.  Yesterday I went out with some friends and watched Big Hero 6, which if you haven't seen it yet, you must!  Then I came home, ate some dinner, and attempted to paint my nails and had a disasticure.  That just means I can watch some Revenge and have a late night paint session tonight.

Today I am sharing a manicure I did last Sunday while watching Revenge.  It's a totally adorable cutesy bow manicure which is a re-creation of a design I did earlier in the year.  Totally weird that I decided to do this manicure while watching that show, but hey it works.

Let's take a look!

Colors Used
  • OPI - You're Such a Budapest
  • OPI - My Boyfriend Scales Walls
  • NYC New York Color - NY Princess
  • Black Acrylic
I really need to make a tutorial for this bow design.  It looks so difficult, but yet is rather easy to do!  You start off with a base coat of whatever color your heart desires.  I picked white for this manicure.  When my base was dry, I used a dotting tool and created a dot close to the center of my nail.  Then with the dotting tool, I created two larger oval shapes, then two lines which drag down from the center dot.  It honestly looks awful when it's at this point, it's when the details are added that it actually looks like a bow.  Using a small nail art brush and black polish, out line the bow, and add the details.  Since my other nails were accented with polka dots, I decided to make my bow polka dotted as well.

My favorite part of this manicure was the accented middle finger.  I used NYC New York Color polish in NY Princess.  This polish is a gorgeous deep purple jelly with purple and blue glitters through out.  I used 3 thin coats on my nail, but you really could have gotten away with two.  The glitter placement was perfect on it's own.  It didn't clump or pool in any weird areas, which I was kind of expecting it to do when I noticed that it was suspended in a jelly.  Seriously love it, it's a jelly sandwich in a bottle!

What do you think?  Liking this manicure?

You can currently purchase these NYC polishes at your local drug stores for $1.99.  There are 5 others in the collection which I'm planing on using closer to Christmas.  I highly suggest that you run out and grab as many as you can because I swatched them all on a plate (I need to find my extra wheels), and holy gorgeousness.  When I find my wheels, I'll take a photo of all them!

Until next time, <3.

The Beauty Buffs: Neutural - Fall Tribal Nail Art

8:00:00 AM

Happy Wednesday!  How are you all today?  I'm backing posting with The Beauty Buffs today!  I'm sorry that I skipped out two weeks ago, but life was a little crazy!  I'm very happy to be back though!

This week we are posting all about neutrals.  I'm not a huge fan of neutrals.  From my nails to my clothes, I'm always wearing something bright and colorful.  I need to have my teals, purples, and pinks.  So when I saw today's theme, I really wasn't sure what to do.

Luckily, the season itself inspired me.  I've always considered Fall colors to be very neutral and toned down in comparison to Spring and Summer.  For me, anything goes in Winter, so that means it's a very bright season as well.

So I started looking up different Fall designs and I found some cute tribal designs.  From there, I started to research Fall Tribal Nail Art and I stumbled upon a lovely design by Demelza's Nails.  I fell in love with it because it was a design created on a neutral base using some more toned down colors.  It was perfect for me because I could do a neutral design while adding the splash of color I needed!

Let's take a look!

Colors Used:
  • INM - Exposed
  • Zoya - Odette
  • Orly - Gumdrop
  • NYC - New York Color - Sweet Melon
  • Black Acrylic
Cute, right?  I am in love with INM Exposed.  It is a new polish from the company and it is the perfect neutral polish.  I should have taken a swatch shot of it because it really is gorgeous.  It applies perfectly in two coats.  A perfect neutral polish such as Exposed really makes me want to try more neutral designs.

The colors that went with this manicure I believe were perfect to keep the design neutral while adding a little bit of umph.  They weren't too bright and weren't too dark.  Odette by Zoya is an awesome polish.  Such a pretty dark mauve....is that what we would consider it?  That's what I would...

After I did this manicure, I really realized that neutral doesn't always have to be boring.  I think I might have to try more looks like this in the future.

What do you think?  Liking the look?  Still passable as a neutral design?

Don't forget to check out the other posts by The Beauty Buffs!
