Twinsie Tuesday: Special Anniversary Post!

Good Morning Polished Peeps!  Yes, you are reading the title of this post correctly, it is a Twinsie Tuesday post.  No, it is not Tuesday, you are 100% accurate that your Friday is here and your long work or school week is finally over!

The reason for the special Twinsie Tuesday post is because today marks the second anniversary of the Twinsie's appearance in the blog world!  It's neat to think that when I was starting my blog, this group was being created.  Now, here I am, part of a group that I never dreamed of being apart of!  It's kind of amazing!

To celebrate this second anniversary, each of us created manicures that are inspired by other Twinsie's first posts.  My manicure today is inspired by the lovely Traci from DrinkCitra.  Now if you follow both mine and Traci's blog, then you know both of us have very different nail shapes.  Traci has some really awesome long nails, while I have nubbins.  Therefore, I was kind of scared to be inspired by one of her manicures because it can be hard fitting designs on these little nails sometimes!  Her first manicure was this awesome fishtail manicure, which is a design I have never done.  I have done a cloud design on my nubs, so I figured I could fit a fishtail.

Sure enough, I was!  Let's take a look!

Cute look, right?  I am so happy with how it turned out!  I originally was going to copy Traci's purple color scheme since I love that color more than anything, but I decided to switch it up and use some of my blue polishes.  I also switched it up by adding dots instead of using loose glitter like Traci.  I decided to not place individual pieces of glitter because I do not have the patience for it.  I love how it looks, but seriously, I give Traci and all other bloggers who have sat and placed each piece of glitter so much credit!  I can paint a SpiderMan on my nails, but when it comes to glitter placement, that's it's own art which no lie would take me 19831907 days to do.



I really love the fishtail design and the dots!  I'm so happy I went with the blue.  I really loved the color of my base, which was Sally Hansen Breezy Blue.  It was such a unique baby blue polish, which was a bit sheer but built up nicely in three coats.  It had teeny tiny bit of shimmer in it which I really liked.  What I didn't like was it's dry time.  Oh my goodness, it took forever for each coat to dry!  In the end, it was worth it!

Simple Color Block Manicure

Good morning polished world!  How are you today?  I'm doing FANTASTIC since this weekend I received over 1,000 new Likes on my Facebook page!  I still cannot get over it!  It seems that my new followers came as part of other lovely bloggers sharing my page using the #sharethelove tag!  Truly, I'm feeling the love and am planning to pay it forward and share some pages!  Thank you so much to those who shared and liked my page!

Today I'm bringing you a quick post as this weeks schedule is weird and I didn't want to leave you guys without a manicure until Friday (tomorrow I have a different-ish post for Twinsie Tuesday).  So we have a very simple manicure as I've been feeling uninspired lately.  It happens, everyone gets into a ditch, but you slowly find your groove again.  This simple color block manicure kind of helped to get me out of my rut.  It surely reminded me how much I love color block manicures and how much I neglect them in my nail artist life.

Let's take a look!




Colors Used
  • Orly Liquid Vinyl
  • China Glaze Too Yacht to Handle

Kind of modern looking, right?!  I started off with a base coat of Orly in Liquid Vinyl, you know, my favorite black polish.  As my base was drying, I opened up my Melmer drawers and sat looking at my stash.  What color was I going to put on top of this black?  Pink, purple, yellow?  Should I do a neon skittle?!  There were so many choices, then I saw it, my new bottle of China Glaze Too Yacht to Handle.  All I could think of was how awesome this color would pop off the black base.

When my nails were dried, I took my nail art tape and created the upside down L shape on my nail.  I could have used my painters tape, but my nails weren't completely dry and I knew that it would have taken the black right off.  Nail art tape seems to be less sticky.  When I had my tape placed where I wanted, I painted in Too Yacht to Handle then removed the tape.


I really loved how these turned out!  At first, one of my co-workers thought that the black was really navy, which then made us both realize how awesome this manicure would have looked with a navy base!  Regardless, I love how the bright just pops.  Imagine neon purple....goodness!  I need to color block some more!

 Now that I look at it, it reminds me of the color block that Gwen has for her OPI collection!  Seriously never realized that until now as I was writing the post.  Marketing at it's finest!!!

Winter Nails Inspired by Pshiiit

Good morning polished world!  How are you all today?  Yet again, it is freezing here.  Below zero nights with wind chills to match, it hasn't been pleasant.  Personally, I'm enjoying my time inside baking, painting my nails, and lounging watching Netflix in my pajamas.

Since it is freezing, I decided to paint my nails with another winter scene.  This manicure was completely inspired by this gorgeous creation by Pshiiit Polish.  I stumbled across the design before Christmas on Pinterest and fell in love.  I didn't think I was going to ever attempt it, but I'm so happy I finally decided to.

Let's take a look.




Colors Used:
  • Orly - Boho Bonnet
  • Sinful Colors - Snow Me White
  • Orly Instant Artist - Jet Black

It looks complicated and like it took a lot of time, but I swear, this manicure was so simple.  I started off with a base coat of Orly Boho Bonnet.  Even though this polish was released as part of last years Spring collection,  I think it's a perfect winter polish.  You know how the sky gets that dusty gray blue look this time of year, well to me, this polish resembles it most closely.

When my base was dried, I sponged Sinful Colors - Snow Me White onto the tips of my nails to look like a blustery, winter scene.  To me, it really looked like the wind was making snow drifts across my nails.

After the white was dried, I dripped out some of the Instant Artist polish on a plate and used my nail art brush to create the trees and little kitty cats that Pshiiit had.  When the black dried (which was super fast), I went through and added the white snow dots on the branches, and random snow flakes with my dotting tool.



So my kitties kind of looked like little fat squirrels.  If you click the link above, you can see that Pshiiit's clearly look like little cats.  Doesn't really matter to me though, squirrels are around in the winter time, so it totally worked.

What do you think?  Do you think I should have added INM Northern Lights?  Part of me wishes I did, but the other part of me is glad I didn't because I think it would have taken away from the design.

Twinsie Tuesday: Seasonal Gradient

Good morning!  I feel like I haven't blogged in forever.  Kind of silly though seeing as it's only been about 4 days.  I kind of had a mini panic attack thinking I was going to run out of posts to share, so I backed off posting.  I think I have a decent amount saved up again so I'll probably try to get on a more regular posting schedule.  We shall see!

Today is Tuesday, meaning it's time for Twinsie Tuesday!  The prompt for today's post is "Seasonal Gradient".  Honestly, I had no idea what to do.  I was going to do blue, but I figured everyone would since that is kind of the go-to winter color in my opinion.

I decided to go with a purple gradient since Radiant Orchid is Pantone's color of the year!  Maybe it's not seasonal since it's a year long thing, but the color was just announced, so it works....right?

    • Sinful Colors - Amethyst 
So sadly, the gradient doesn't show up in the photos as much as it did in real life, but you can still see that it's lighter at the top of the triangle and darker at the tips.  I started off with a base coat of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls and then let it dry for a good few hours.  Then, with my painters tape, I created the main triangle on my nails.  With my nail art tape, I went slightly below the painters tape and created another triangle.  Then, with my make up sponge, I sponged on my gradient and removed the tape!


It's a neat look, right?  I did something similar in the summer on one of my nails when I did some ugly green and yellow gradient I hated and everyone else seemed to like.  I would link it but I hate it so much that I refuse to go look at it again.  I'm happy with the look now that it is in a color I enjoy!  I kind of wish I put INM Northern Lights over the gradient before I removed the tape.  Knowing me though, I probably would have ruined the purple goodness and been all frustrated.  Maybe next time I will try.

Animal Print

Neon Gradient with Zebra Print

Good morning!!!  How are you all today?  Can you believe it is already January 17th?  Seriously, where did is this month going?  I need to get my nail art booty in gear and finish up my Valentines Day nail art wheel because before I know it, the day is going to be here and I'll only have 2 of the nails done.

Today I am bringing you a bright, neon, cheerful manicure since I am tired of winter and winter colors.  I feel that if my nails are bright and cheery, the day will be too.  That's logical, right?  This look was inspired by this manicure by SusieQ1980 on Instagram.  I remember seeing this manicure ages ago and was really upset that I didn't own That's Shore Bright.  During a Black Friday special, I was able to snag a bottle for myself along with Too Yacht To Handle, and was able to complete the look!

I switched it up a bit and really love how it turned out!  Let's take a look!

  • INM - Bikini, Northern Lights
  • Orly - Liquid Vinyl

For the life of me, I cannot figure out what colors SusieQ1980 used to get her amazing gradient.  I originally tried a mixture of China Glaze Too Yacht To Handle, That's Shore Bright, and Flip Flop Fantasy, but it just looked awful and din't blend at all.  That's when I decided I needed some hot pink and grabbed my bottle of INM Bikini.  I sponged on the gradient, and instantly glittered it using INM Northern Lights.  How can you not glitterize a gradient?  To get the zebra stripes, I used a nail art brush and Orly Liquid Vinyl after the glitter dried.

I decided to add some glitter to That's Shore Bright also since I thought it looked a tad odd as a plain cream next to the shimmery This Crown Needs a Gown and my glittered ring finger.


Totally bright and cheerful, right?!  I think this is one of my favorite manicures just because of the color combo and the glitter.  That's Shore Bright is right now one of my favorite polishes.  I know that these Sunsational cream polishes received a lot of bad reviews this past summer, but I had no issues with my bottle.  I have found that ever single neon I have ever owned was kind of difficult to apply.  They're a tad streaky, but they fill in after the second coat.  To me, this polish was a typical neon, little streaky but not so awful that I would never use the polish again.

 Not sure when my next post is going to be.  It might be on Tuesday since I'm kind of running out of manicures to share and I went two days with naked nails this past week since I've been uninspired.  I think Captain America and Spiderman kicked my nail art butt and exhausted me so much that I need to be simple for a few days.  Don't worry though, I'm not going anywhere!

Twinsie Tuesday: Inspired By A Family Member

Hello polished world!  Since today is Tuesday, that means it's time for my second Twinsie Tuesday post!  This week's prompt is "Inspired by a Family Member".  For this manicure, I was inspired by two of my family members, my little nephews!!

Both my nephews love superheroes!  Spiderman, Batman, you name it, they love it.  My oldest nephew was the first to fall in love with Spiderman.  He would always around the house pretending to shoot spider webs out of his little hands.  It took no time for him to teach his little brother everything he knew about his hero. 

My original plan was to just do a full Spiderman manicure, but I wasn't 100% happy with that idea.  I was being inspired by my two little guys, not just one, so I started to think.  Then, the lightbulb went off, their Halloween costumes!!!  Last year, my nephews were Captain America and Spiderman!  How perfect, two ideas one for each of them!

So, I had my idea, but I needed a bit of help.  I had no idea where to start since I have zero knowledge about either character.  For that help, I went to the superhero manicure expert for help, Karin from Nail Asylum.  This girl can paint some of the most intricate comic book themed nail designs which always amaze me!  I sent her an e-mail telling her what I wanted to do and what my ideas were, and she amazingly sent me back drawings of different ideas.  I couldn't believe it, she went above and beyond with these little sketches which brought my vision to life!

Amazing, right?  This design took a little over two hours to complete on both hands because there were so many different steps.  Then of course there were the OCD moments where I messed up a line here or there and had to start all over.  No lie, Captain America was done twice, and Spiderman about three different times.

As you can see, my pointer and middle finger are Captain America themed, and my ring and pinkie are Spiderman themed.  I incorporated both characters on my thumb by painting Captain America's shield and a little spider web.


Despite the fact that the design took so long to accomplish, it was well worth it in the end!   My ring finger is by far my favorite.  Sure, the other nails look neat, but I'm so proud of that Spiderman face!

Accent Nail

Simple Heart Manicure Inspired by AmKuch1

Happy Sunday!  How are you all doing today??  I'm happy because it's not below zero outside.  Sure, it's damp and rainy and we'll probably have another cold freeze in about a week, but for now it's warmer and that is all that matters!

Today I am bringing you a simple heart design which was inspired by this gorgeous manicure by AmKuch15 on Instagram.  I'm pretty sure this is probably her most re-created design.  It's easy to see why, it's just so simple and so gorgeous.  As soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted it on my nails.

I switched the colors up a bit, and loved the end result.  Let's take a look.

  • OPI - I'm Feeling Sashy
  • OPI - This Crown Needs a Gown
  • OPI - My Boyfriend Scales Walls
Isn't it so pretty??  I decided to use I'm Feeling Sashy mainly because I had just purchased the polish at the time and was dying to use it.  This is my first polish of this color, so you can imagine my excitement when I finally snagged a bottle.  It has that perfect OPI formula where it applied evenly with two coats.  

Then, instead of using my normal silver metallic polish, I decided to use This Crown Needs a Gown which has quickly become my favorite silver polish.  Goodness, if you don't have it, I suggest you head out and find a bottle!  It dries with this perfect satin finish that requires on top coat.  If you put a top coat on it, the satin is still there but a little more depth is added.  Since I loved this polish so much, I ran out and purchased the gold satin from the Gwen Stefani collection because this silver had to have it's sister!



Both polishes worked great as nail art polishes as well!  As you can see, I was able to get rather straight lines using my nail art brush and This Crown Needs a Gown, and I'm Feeling Sashy made a perfect little heart using my dotting tool.

I had debated on adding INM Northern Lights to I'm Feeling Sashy, but I'm so happy I didn't.  It looks so much better with the cream polish, then the metallic and art nail.  Just so simple and gorgeous.

Snowman Nails!

Hi Polished World!!!  How are you today??  Hopefully you are all staying warm the past few days!  Seriously, where did this blizzardy weather come from?  On Tuesday morning the temperature was -4 and the windchill was -20.  I did not want to leave my house.  Today it's going to be a bit warmer, and by warmer, it's supposed to be 23 degrees.

Since it's been so cold and snowy, it was necessary to create some sort of snow scene on my nails.  Last year I did a polar bear and penguin manicure, and since I recently did a penguin manicure, I decided to do a snowman manicure!  The last time I painted a snowman on my nails was before I started blogging.  When I started the blog in February of 2012 (oh man we're close to the 2 year anniversary!), I shared the little guys!  Not too shabby for only having toothpicks to work with.  Honestly, I was beyond proud of them.

So, now that I have nail art tools, more polishes, and longer nails, it was about time I try a snowman manicure again.  Let's take a look.




Colors Used:
  • Sinful Colors - Sugar Rush
  • Precision Lacquer - Shake Your Bon Bon
  • Sinful Colors - Snow Me White
  • Orly - Liquid Vinyl
  • China Glaze - That's Shore Bright
  • Zoya - Beatrix
Cute, right?  To get the look, I started off with a base coat of Sugar Rush and added one coat of the gorgeous Shake Your Bon Bon glitter by Precision Lacquer.  When that was dried, I went through with my white polish and added un-even french tips to make it look like snow had  fallen across my nails.  On my accent nails, I did a snowman using my nail art brush.  I started first by outlining the body, adding the little head, then filling the rest in.  While the little guy was drying, I went through and added the dots for the snowflakes.  I then took my nail art brush and drew on the little hat, eyes, mouth, buttons, and scarf.



I really am happy that I decided to add the coat of glitter to the base.  I don't think I would have enjoyed the manicure as much if it didn't have that sparkle.  I got the idea after seeing my polar bear manicure last year where I put a thin coat of Orly Angel Eyes down before I drew my designs.  I was going to do Angel Eyes again, but I decided to go with the softer baby blue glitter.  Maybe I'll re-do my polar bears before winter is over just to use Angel Eyes again.

Twinsie Tuesday: Your Favorite Color Combo

You read that title right, Twinsie Tuesday!!!  I could not have been more excited when I opened my e-mail the other day and had an e-mail inviting me to join this group of talented, amazing bloggers!  It truly made my day!  Thank you all for asking me to join, I really truly am honored!!!

The prompt for today's Twinsie Tuesday was your favorite color combo.  Boy, I had a hard time figuring out what to pick!  I always love how bright colors pop when used with a black and white design, so I decided right away that some how my combo was going to include that.

Then came the hard part, picking the color that was going to go with the black and white.  I literally sat looking into my open Melmer drawers debating on what to pick.  Finally, I selected my favorite color; purple.  How could you go wrong?

As you can see, I went with the retro dot design!  Before I started blogging, this was one of my first endeavors with polka dots.  I did re-create the look back in 2012 and included the original blurry cell phone photo of the first time I ever did them.  Looking back on it now, I really feel like I've come a long way.  To me, these seem a lot more uniform compared to before.  I also love the purple base this time around!  Definitely my favorite color combo :) 



So my biggest pet peeve of these nails were the dots themselves.  Not how they looked, but how they felt.  For the first time, I decided to use my water based Instant Artist polishes to create the polka dots.  Well, Doing this was great because they were more uniform, but they dried more 3D than I would have liked.  Even with a glob of top coat, I still found myself picking at the dots.  So silly, but I did it the whole time!

Chalkboard Nails Grunge Look

Happy Sunday polished world!  I hope you all have a fantastic day planned!  My Sunday's are rather lazy, but I wouldn't have it any other way.  Especially now that it's gotten super cold here the last few days, I really enjoy spending time all warm and cozy in my house.  Sure, winter can be "blah" sometimes, but something about lazy Sundays make winter not as "blah".

Today's manicure is definitely not "Blah" in my opinion!  If you follow the amazing Chalkboard Nails, then I'm sure you have seen her awesome tutorial for distressed punky/grunge nails.  I really wanted to recreate the look right away, but since it was around Thanksgiving time when she posted the tutorial, I had to put them on the back burner since I had Thanksgiving designs planned.  Then, of course, I ended up getting sick, and I took a break from painting my nails all together.  When I went back to painting, I went right into doing Christmas designs.

So of course, on December 26th, I took off my glitter Christmas nails and got to painting.  I looooved how they turned out!  Let's take a look!

Awesome, right?  I can't wait to do this design with other colors because it was so easy.  I recommend watching Sarah's video that I linked before the pictures because I'm sure my explanation that is about to follow is going to make no sense and it personally helped me to watch the technique.

I started of with a base coat of white polish.  When my white was dry, I took INM - Bikini and took basically all the polish off the brush like Sarah said.  I then swiped a few random spots on the nail.  I did the same thing then with Too Yacht Too Handle.  I decided to just try to fill in the white space and tried my best to not get it on the pink.  I then filled in the empty white space with That's Shore Bright.  Finally, with my black polish I lightly swiped over all the colors.  This part to me was the trickiest because I didn't want to have my nail overpowered with the black.  I really wanted the colors to show through.



Looking back at Sarah's nails and my attempt, I really like both looks.  You can see that her's really don't show any of the white base, where mine there was quite a lot.  I think the next time I do it, I'll try to be more generous with the colors.  I honestly was scared that they were all going to bleed into one another and leave some really funky ugly color.

In the end though, it's a super fun look that is really easy to achieve but looks like it took forever.  Since you use barely any polish to get the color, the dry time is super fast!
