I decided to do a Gingerbread man accent because I thought he would look cute next to Christmas Cookie.  And well, gingerbread men are Christmas cookies.  I wish the second part of that statement was part of my reasoning for picking that accent, but I literally just came to that conclusion as I was typing this post.  The real reason why I picked a gingerbread man was because the Christmas tree design I tried to do failed miserably and I literally had no idea what else to do.  I remembered a friend of mine showed me a gingerbread manicure a few weeks ago so I went with him!

Hello there!  I'm so happy to be back posting with the Twinsie's on this fine Tuesday morning!  We have taken the month of December off to reorganize, recuperate, and enjoy the holiday season!  When we decided on this little hiatus, we thought it would be a good idea to do a special December holiday post!

For our post today, we are sharing not one, but TWO manicures, one for Christmas and one for Hanukkah.  I am a Christian who celebrates Christmas, so during this time of the year, my blog is overloaded with Christmas designs.  I have never created a Hanukkah manicure, so doing one for Twinsie Tuesday was an awesome opportunity for me!  I am rather excited to share a manicure which my Jewish followers could possibly use next year or for the last few nights!

Hello and Happy Saturday everyone!  Christmas is only a few short days away!  Can you believe it?!  I swear Thanksgiving was last Thursday.  Time got away from me and I was unable to create a Christmas Nail Art wheel for this season.  Oh well, maybe next year.

Despite not creating a new wheel, I have been a busy little bee creating some Christmas themed manicures.  Yes, I've done most of them before, but I'm trying my best to do new and different versions.  So far I think I'm doing well.

For today I decided to re-create my Christmas light manicure.  In previous years, I have done a white gradient on my naked nail to look more like snow.  This year, I decided to skip the gradient and just paint my whole nail white.  I cannot tell you how much I love this version, which contained lots of glitter!

When everything was dry, I used my nail art brush and painted on the black string and outline of the bulbs using a black acrylic paint.  When my outline was complete, I went through with the various NYC New York Color glitters and filled in the bulbs.  These polishes were PERFECT for light bulbs.  Since they are jellies, they filled in the small area perfectly, and the glitters sparkled right through the colorful base.  When you look at my nails in real life, they twinkled like real Christmas lights!

I followed Rina's tutorial to get the little guy on my nail.  Since my nails are shorter than hers, I didn't add a smile or the little pink cheeks like she had.  I still think he's adorable without it!  He looks right at home with the silver.

This photo you can see the snowflakes clearer.  I used a striper brush in the bottle of FingerPaints Glitz and Glam to get the silver flakes.  I've never used a striper brush in a regular polish bottle.  It was kind of difficult to do and it made me wonder if striper polishes are different formulas than regular nail painting polishes.  If that makes sense.

Amazing, right?!  First before I get into what I did and how I did it, I'm going to talk about how awesome Zoya Rebel is.  This polish is part of Zoya's Awaken collection from last Spring.  It is a gorgeous shimmery blue which is great for Spring, but also great this time of year!  It's a perfect base for this snowy scene!  With two coats I had complete coverage.  Some shimmers you'll see brush strokes, but not with this one.

My snowflakes were done using the Orly Water Based Instant Artist in White.  I love these stripers because since they are water based, if you mess up and catch it quick enough, you can wipe off your design with a wet rag.  Similar to acrylic paints.  Plus the brush, despite it being long, doesn't go out of control like some stripers.


Below is the YouTube video that Rina created for this look for you to all see since I will probably confuse you if I explain how I did the snowmen in depth.  Trust me though, they are so easy to do!  The trick is to draw the outline of the snowman, then fill him in like he's in a coloring book!   Whenever I created designs that are intricate such as this, I start with my main design, then outline later.  When I go to outline, I mess up the whole design by making lines too thick or thin, and I get frustrated and take off the manicure.

I love the base of my manicure!  I decided to add a top coat of Moonstone over a plain white because it gave the nails a pearl like finish which is similar to the peppermint candies!  When my base was dried, with the Red I <3 Nail Art Brush, I started outlining the peppermints.  Took awhile to do on the first few nails because I had to get used to the length of the striper brush.  Compared to other stripers I've owned, these are shorter, meaning there is more control.  Only downside for me was that polish started to move down the little stick and gather on the brush when I didn't want it to.


The red glitter is FingerPaints Sugar and Spice from the Winter Wishes collection.  Such a gorgeous red glitter!  In the bottle, you can't really tell that it has all these different size shreds of glitter.  I thought it was a simple microglitter.  I did one thin coat over my pointer and pinkie.  You could get away with two coats on a naked nail and have full sparkly red coverage!  Really loving this pretty red for the holidays!  I might even be able to use it at Valentine's Day and the Fourth of July :).  I love Christmas glitters that can be used year round!

Good morning polished world!  How are you today?!  I know I've been quiet on the blog lately!  I found myself smack dab in the middle of a nail art funk and couldn't create a decent manicure.  Now I've had 3 good ones in a row, and after last nights manicure, it is safe to say my funk is over and I'm back!  Well, except for today!

• Zoya - Tomoko

This is a shot of Tomoko with a top coat.  Kind of blurry due to my camera needing to be charged.  I have found that when you add top coat, the polish still remains textured and gets ten times more sparkly!  I think that top coat makes the polish last longer as well.  Not like Pixies need any help with that.  I have found that all my original formulas stick on my nail like super glue and do not chip for at least 5 days.

I picked this polish for a Holiday post because A. it's sparkly B. the color is perfect this time of year, and C. it would be a great polish to pair with a simple nail art accent!

Last year I created this nail art wheel with many holiday designs!  Many of them would work great alongside Tomoko!


I'm really thinking Rudolph or Santa would look amazing on the ring finger!

If you have Chita or Chyna from the original Pixies, then those also would be perfect around the holiday!  I still am kicking myself that I don't have a bottle of Chyna.  I missed the clearance of it at my local beauty supply store and I haven't fully recovered.  OHHH Idea!  If you have those polishes along with Tomoko, you could put a holly on the ring finger!

For my tribal design, I did a gradient of various neon polishes.  I started with a pink, then went to a coral color, then an orange.  I cannot think of the exact names right now and am very lazy to go look.  Once I got the gradient how I liked it, I used my nail art brush to create the design.  I cheated and used acrylic paint to make sure my lines and details were neater and cleaner.

Hey everyone!  Just a quick post to let you know what's going on here at The Little Canvas!  I do not want you to think that I'm abandoning the blog since I've been quiet for a few days!

First off, the Twinsie's are taking a month off to enjoy the holidays!  We will be back once before Christmas to bring you all a holiday manicure, but other than that, Tuesdays will be quite quiet.  Since there is this little hiatus, I'm going to go back to posting every 3 days with the exception of The Beauty Buffs.  This way I won't feel as stressed trying to get manicures done and up on the blog.  With my odd scheduling, I've felt bogged down and unable to fully enjoy what I've been doing.  The last three days I've had naked nails because I've been that uninspired.  Good news is, I'm back to painting and have an awesome manicure on right now that I cannot wait to show you all!

Now, for the gushy part.  I want to take a minute and thank every single one of my lovely followers.  It's been an amazing year for The Little Canvas.  I cannot BELIEVE how many followers I've gained over the past few months!  I'm at almost 7,500 on Instagram, close to 10,000 on Tumblr, and this past week I went over 3,000 on Facebook! When I started this blog, I never thought I would get 100, let alone 7,500 on any platform.  It's such a blessing being able to share my hobby with so many of you, and inspire many along the way.  It's also been amazing getting to know many of you.  I've met some awesome people who I interact with daily through this blogging adventure.  I never thought that something as little as nail polish impact my life so much!

So thank you all for your love and support of this blog!!!!  I'll be back tomorrow with a new nail design, and then later in the week I'll be introducing you to the December Nail Artist of the Month!
