Doodle Nail Art!

9:00:00 AM

Good morning and happy Sunday everyone!  I honestly forgot to schedule a post for today and realized it at 12:30am after I got home from a friend's birthday party.  I debated on skipping it and just going to sleep, but then I realized I wouldn't have had a post up until Tuesday.  I couldn't let you lovelies go that long without nail art!

Today I am posting what could be called a back to school manicure.  Where I live, many of the colleges went back to school last week, and the elementary through high schools will return this week after Labor Day.  Even though I graduated college two years ago and am not taking classes this Fall, I still had to do something for the Back to School season!

For this years Back to School manicure, I decided to do notebook doodle nail art.  Don't lie, each and every one of us is guilty of drawing little doodles in the margins of their notebook paper when they should have been listening to the lectures.  The diamond "S" is an all time classic.  After years of seeing this design on numerous people's nails, I thought I should try them out!

Enough babbling, let's take a look!

Colors Used:
  • Sinful Colors - Snow Me White
  • Sinful Colors - Bright Lucite
  • Sally Hansen I <3 Nail Art - Hot Pink
  • Orly Instant Artist - Jet Black
To get the look, I started off with a base of white polish.  I feel like I've been jumping around from white polishes lately.  I've gone from FingerPaints to Cult Cosmetics, back to Sinful Colors.  Honestly, I was going to use the FingerPaints one until I found a brand new bottle of Snow Me White sitting in my Melmer.  Nothing better than finding a surprise brand new bottle of polish!

Anywho, after my base of white polish was on, I drew the blue lines on my nail, then the pink line down the edge for the margin.  You can check out my little tutorial I did last year here for them.  Rather simple, and probably would be easiest if you had a striper.  Sadly I do not own a blue striper so I had to use my nail art brush which took a little extra time and a steady hand.

For the pink line though, I had my Sally Hansen I <3 Nail Art striper in Hot Pink, which was sent to me for review.  I love these stripers....they have a shorter brush and are very easy to work with.  The name is a tad misleading though because as you can see it's a muted pink.  Perfect for the margin!

Some of the designs were inspired by Kelsie's Nail Files.  I am guilty at staring at her manicure while I did mine.  I loved what she did on her thumb as I have many notebooks with that little thunder/lightening design.

What do you think?  Fan of the manicure?  Is this a look you would do??

Until next time, <3.

The Beauty Buffs: Texture Inspired

8:00:00 AM

Happy Wednesday!  I'm here posting two days in a row, which means it's time for another post with The Beauty Buffs!  I cannot believe it's been two weeks already since our last postings.  I apologize to the lovely ladies in the group for not commenting on their amazing black and white posts (see the link up at the bottom!).  I loved each and every single one.  I feel awkward going back two weeks and commenting now.  Maybe I will, but still, I feel weird.  Life just got so busy!  I promise I will get better at commenting!

Today our theme is texture inspired.  I'm a huge fan of my Zoya Pixie Dust polishes.  Personally, I love the original formula Pixie polishes.  Sure, the Magical Pixies are great, but there is just something about the sparkly fine texture of the original formula.

For today's manicure I had many different ideas running through my head.  I wasn't sure if I should do textured nail art like I did for these roses, or a cutout design like my Pixie Dust Stars, or if I should do something with tape like I did for my fun checkerboard Pixie design.  Then I thought though how awesome textured polishes look with creams, especially as an accent or framing the cream design.

After purchasing China Glaze Capacity to See Beyond and after seeing this manicure, I decided to create what I call a framed accent manicure.  I call it that because I'm framing my nail art with plain nails, which accent the nail art quite nicely.  I tend to do this a lot with cream polishes that are topped with some Northern Lights.  Doing it with a Pixie Dust though added so much more contrast to the manicure which I fell in love with.

Enough of my babbling, I should let you look at the manicure!

Colors Used:
  • Zoya - Liberty
  • Orly - Liquid Vinyl
  • China Glaze - Capacity to See Beyond
  • Cult Cosmetics - El Porto
Isn't it gorgeous?  This has to be one of my all time favorite manicures.  As you know, I am a huge fan of blue, so this color combination was an automatic win in my book.  If I had to sit down tonight and pick my all time favorite cream polish, it would be Capacity to See Beyond.  It's the color I have searched years for and am so happy to finally own.  I need to go grab every possible bottle in existence.

Enough about the cream though, this post is all about the textures.  The original formula Pixies are great for nail art.  As you can see from my ring finger, and my thumb, I used a dotting tool and Liberty to create the flower and the dots.  I love creating dotticures using them.  If you have stayed away from purchasing polishes such as the Pixie dusts because you think that you cannot do nail art with them, click on that Pixie Dust tag at the bottom of this post.  They make nail art pop!

New photo set up.  I'm trying to hold bottles of the polishes I use instead of just my top coat.  Still trying to get a hang of it.  Cult Cosmetics bottles are rather easy due to their shape.  The China Glaze though are a whole different story.  That though is another post!

What do you think?  Loving the look?  Are you a fan of texture polishes?  Clearly due to all my rambling you can tell I am.

Make sure to check out the other Beauty Buffs posts!

Until next time, <3.

Twinsie Tuesday

Twinsie Tuesday: Sideways French Manicure

9:00:00 AM

Good morning polished world!  Happy Tuesday!  Which is the last Tuesday of August....can you believe it?  I can't.  I honestly feel like there wasn't a summer this year.  As I type this, there is a Tim Horton's commercial on TV talking about a pumpkin pie ice cap.  Come on, it's still August...ugh.  I'm going to hold on to summer as long as I can.  And what better way to do that then with a fun neon manicure?!

Today for Twinsie Tuesday we are doing sideways french manicures.  I'm not a fan of the traditional french manicure, so I pinned this design months and months ago because it really was quite lovely looking.  Who would have thought it would look quite horrid on my own nails.  Okay, maybe not horrid, but I just wasn't a fan of them on my nail shape.

Only part of my mani I really enjoyed was the neon skittles.  Let's take a look!

Colors Used
  • Salon Perfect - Loopy Lime, Bermuda Baby
  • Orly - Glowstick, Oh Cabana Boy, Melt Your Popsicle, Liquid Vinyl
So stinking bright!  I am shocked my camera captured their full brightness!  I did three coats of all the neon polishes.  I could have gotten away with two on Loopy Lime, Oh Cabana Boy, and Bermuda Baby, but I really wanted them to be super bright.  Glowstick and Melt Your Popsicle were very thin so I really needed 3 coats to get them to be opaque.  I didn't mind though because in the end they were awesome looking.

When all the bases were dry, I used a nail art brush and Liquid Vinyl to create the sideways french tip.  I like how the black looked against the neon.  Just not liking how it looked on my nail.

So I painted this manicure on Saturday night, photographed it Sunday morning, then by Sunday afternoon destroyed it.  It wasn't intentional either!  I ended up catching my thumb in a spring loaded stall door causing the largest and ugliest blood blister on my left thumb.  Today when I took all the polish off I saw that there is a nice little bruise under the nail.  Currently counting my blessings that I didn't catch it any lower because I'm pretty sure the injury would have been a lot worse.

Do you like the mani?  Loving the neons?

Don't forget to check out the other Twinsie's posts!

Cult Cosmetics

Cult Cosmetics Kitchen Sink Manicure

9:00:00 AM

Press Sample
Good morning polished world!  How are you all today?  I'm doing fantastically!  It's Saturday, how can I be bad?  I am planning on sleeping in, then cleaning my car, followed by a quick trip to the mall, then home again to paint my nails.  Ahhhh, such a relaxing Saturday.

Today I have a fun kitchen sink manicure I did using some Cult Cosmetics polishes!  If you follow me on Instagram, then you know that I received the most awesome nail mail from this company about a week ago.  A base coat, two toppers, 9 polishes, brushes, dotting tools, and a lip gloss.....it was such a surprise!  I knew they were sending some polishes, just not that much!

I was very excited to see how the polishes were because I have heard good things from other bloggers.  Out of all the polishes that were sent, Avalon, a bright orangy coral polish, stood out to me.  It seemed like it was the toned down sister of China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy.  I had to use it right away.  So I grabbed my black, and Cult Cosmetics El Porto and got to work!

Let's take a look!  I apologize about the photos.  The lightbox is being mended.

Colors Used:
  • Cult Cosmetics - Avalon
  • Cult Cosmetics - El Porto
  • Orly - Liquid Vinyl
Avalon is a really fun color which I can see myself using a lot for nail art, especially with gradients!  I love using bright colors for gradients.  It applied evenly in two coats.  My complaint is the polish bottle top, it's square so it can be kind of hard to hold on to.  I think it might be something I need to get used to because I'm used to my OPI and Zoya bottle tops.

El Porto is an awesome white!  You know me and white polishes, I'm constantly on the lookout for my new favorite.  While I still am a huge fan of FingerPaints Paper Mache, I see myself using this one just as much.  I will switch off every once and awhile.  Great polish for nail art, again weird polish top but probably have to get used to it.  My brush was a tad wonky on this one so I had to be a little patient when it came to applying the base on my ring and thumb.

My pointer and pinkie finger were inspired by Amber from Nails Like Lace and her awesome interlocking manicure she did for Twinsie Tuesday.  Ever since I saw hers, I fell in love and put it on the to do list.  I think the interlocking design looks PERFECT with the dotted and taped nail.

What do you think?  Liking the design?  Have you ever used Cult Cosmetics?

Polishes can be purchased from Cult Cosmetics individually for $9.99 or in one of their many kits where you receive different goodies to create different nail art looks.  All polishes are 5-free and vegan!

Also, I'm slacking on commenting again.  I read each and every one and truly appreciate them!  I will get around to responding this weekend or later this week!

Until next time, <3

Bestie Twin Nails

Bestie Twin Nails with Fashion Footing!

9:00:00 AM

Hello polished world!  Hope you are all doing well today!  I'm so happy today is Thursday.  Am I the only one who feels like this week has dragged on and on and on?  I cannot wait for Saturday.

Even though I'm excited for the weekend, I am happy for today because I'm here posting another Bestie Twin Nail design with Fashion Footing!  This has become our monthly posting tradition, which I'm really enjoying.  I'll have to ask Amanda if she still is after this design.

Today's design is a tape manicure which looked a lot easier than it was.  We (or maybe it was me and then Amanda agreed) found this idea on Pinterest and decided to give it a whirl.  I would link it here, but Amanda said when she clicked the link, it led to a questionable website, and well we're not having any of that over here on The Little Canvas.  The image did not contain watermark so I sadly cannot tell you who originally created the idea.

Anywho, let's take a look!

Colors Used:
  • Orly - Frolic
  • Orly - Liquid Vinyl
  • OPI - This Crown Needs a Gown
Originally I did this design using China Glaze Capacity to See Beyond for a base, then in place of the silver I used Zoya Tomoko.  I wasn't happy with how they turned out, so of course I took them off and started from scratch the next day.  I'm rather happy I did because I loved the look using Frolic and This Crown Needs a Gown.

The design took some patience due to the tape placement.  I started out with 2 coats of Frolic.  Once it was dried, I placed 6 pieces of tape on my nail.  Then I quickly got to work using my dotting tool to fill in the areas with the silver and black polish.  Just as quickly as the polish was dotted into place, I was removing the tape to ensure that I would get the cleanest of clean lines.  It was a pain!

A pain but awesome looking.  I received a lot of compliments on this manicure!  Then, yesterday, I hit my ring finger on the corner of a wall, which broke my beautiful long nail.  I was just commenting to myself earlier in the day how it's been awhile since I broke one, especially since I've been wearing my nails longer the past few weeks.

What do you think?  Liking the design?  Fan of the color combo?

Make sure to check out Amanda's manicure!

Until next time, <3.

Twinsie Tuesday: Classic

9:00:00 AM

Happy Tuesday polished world!  How are you all today?  It is time for yet another Twinsie Tuesday!  Our theme this week is "classic".  When I saw that this was our theme, the first thing that  came to mind were french tip manicures.  That to me is the most classic form of nail art.

Well, since I'm not a fan of the french tip on my own nails, I decided to go the classic of classic routes.  In my mind that was a swatch.  The first ever manicure wasn't crazy nail art, it was just a swatch....right?  Maybe?

The idea sounded good in my head at the time.  To make my swatch post less boring, I'm including two swatches of my current favorite polishes.

Let's start with China Glaze - Capacity to See Beyond.  I apologize for the crappy photos.  My lightbox is currently being repaired and these photos were taken in my room using a pillow case as a back drop and my lamp as the light.

Capacity to See Beyond is a brilliant blue polish which applies smoothly in two coats.  This is the polish I have been searching ages for and now am so happy to finally own.  I haven't been impressed with China Glaze in the longest time, but this polish really has put them back on my radar, especially because of the awesome formula.  I love it.

The next polish is Orly Frolic.  Again, crappy photos, I apologize.

I've had Frolic on my toes for two weeks now without a single chip.  This polish is just amazing.  Swatched above is two perfectly smooth coats.  My favorite purple pink polish I own.  I have some nail art coming up with this one later this week or early next.  Not sure yet since it's involved with my Bestie Twin Nails with Fashion Footing again.

What do you think of my swatches?  I probably should have picked a classic red.....

Don't forget to check out the other Twinsie's posts!  I can't wait to see how they interpreted the theme!

Katarina Naturals All Natural Nail Polish Remover Review

9:00:00 AM

Press Sample
Happy Monday polished world!  How are you all today?  As promised, today I am sharing a review of some awesome all natural nail polish remover!  I wanted to have it up last Thursday, but I came down with a nasty little bug and I didn't have the energy to write up a decent enough post.

Now that I'm feeling better, I am back and ready to review the awesome removers from Katarina Naturals!  These polish removers are Made in America and not tested on animals.  They are made from agricultural products (mostly corn), which makes them more "green".  Their pink bottle formulation contains acetone, while the blue bottle does not.  Since these products do not contain 100% acetone, they are less drying to the nails and cuticles.  You all may remember my story about how weak and brittle my nails got after using pure acetone, which led to many breaks and sad days for this little nail blogger.  Due to that, I'm a huge fan of anything which is less damaging to my nails!

I received the All Natural Acetone Based Nail Polish Remover and the All Natural Nail Polish Remover with no Acetone.  The pink bottle has less than 45% acetone in the mix and it's ingredients include; acetone, water, ethyl alcohol, n-butyl alcohol, glycerin, aloe vera, and fragrance in the form of essential grapefruit oil. The blue bottle contains no acetone and it's ingredients are; ethyl alcohol, water, n-butyl acetate, n-butanol, and spearmint oil for fragrance.  The solvents in both are from corn stock.

Let's say hello again to my Salon Perfect Neon Pop manicure!  This manicure had two coats of white polish for a base, the random streaks of color which could count for one more coat, then one coat of clear top coat.  When I remove my nail polish, I use square pieces of craft felt.  I have found it's easier to remove polish using these than cotton balls, especially when it comes to glitter removal.

I fold the square piece in half and place it around the top of the remover bottle and let it get saturated.  The remover has a strong scent to it.  I can smell the acetone, but you can smell that it is mixed with the grapefruit oil.  It does have a fruity scent, but it is a tad too strong for me.  It kind of reminded me of a stronger version of my Beauty Secrets pink remover from Sally Beauty Supply.

When my felt is saturated, I rub it across the nail a few times or until the polish comes off completely.  One square piece usually will remove at least 5 nails worth of polish using my store bought polish remover.  I was rather interested to see if one piece would get me through one hand using this remover.  Pictured above is my piece of felt which I brushed across my nail about 3 to 4 times with a little pressure.  It removed the same as my store bought remover.

Happy days!  One piece of felt removed all five of my nails on my left hand!  It does look like my middle finger has some residue left on it, but that white spot is from where I banged my nail and it got a little damaged.  At least, I think that's what those white spots are from when they appear.  I never really know.

Now it came time to remove the polish on my right hand!  For this hand, I decided to use the blue bottle of remover!  I did the same thing I did with my left hand and the pink bottle.  I folded a square of felt in half then saturated it.  Then I got to removing.  I really, really, really, really, REALLY loved the scent of this remover!  It has the most minty fresh scent ever!  It reminded me almost of toothpaste!!  Compared to the nasty smell of some removers, this was a great and pleasant alternative!

I had to use two squares of felt to remove all 5 nails on my right hand.  One square removed 3 nails.  It did take a little longer than the acetone based remover, but obviously that was because this contains no acetone at all.  To me, I rather have a slightly longer removal process instead of using acetone which destroyed my nails in the past.  Plus, it was really only about 2 minutes longer, not 2 hours.

Overall thoughts:
I loved both products.  If I had to pick a favorite, I would select the blue bottle which contains no acetone.  I really loved that fresh peppermint scent!  If you're a glitter wearer, you could use either bottle, but I would suggest using a soaking method.  Be it using those little pink pods or the foil method.  Sure, it takes a little longer, but why should we be rushing while doing our nails?  Manicure time is relaxation time!

If you would like to learn more about the products, please visit the Katarina Naturals Website!  I love their slogan "Take it Easy on Yourself."  Just hearing that makes me relaxed!

The 4 oz pink bottle can be purchased here on Amazon for $5.99, and the 4 oz. blue bottle can be purchased here on Amazon for $6.99.

Hope you all have a great day! <3

Orly Mish Mosh Manicure

9:00:00 AM

Happy Saturday!  How are you all today?  I'm doing fabulously since I get to sleep in!  Aren't Saturday's the best??  I'm especially looking forward to the rest because I had some really weird stomach bug the other day and it's knocked me down just a tad.  I had a review of some really awesome All Natural Nail Polish remover all ready to go up on the blog, but after getting sick I got too lazy to edit the post and finish writing it up.  So instead of posting it today, I decided to share a manicure that I've been meaning to put up, and share the review tomorrow.

Today's manicure was one that I posted a sneak peek of in my Nail Polish Canada Great Nail Polish Giveaway post.  If you remember, I nominated Orly Oh Cabana Boy to be one of the 193 polishes that were given away.  Congrats to whoever won; that's a mini stash of nail polish!  I couldn't imagine ever winning that many bottles!

This manicure was created when I saw that bottle of Oh Cabana Boy sitting brightly among all the other polishes in my Melmer.  I was really feeling the hot pink that not only did I put it on my fingers, but I did a matching pedicure also.  I did a random kitchen sink manicure inspired by many different designs I've seen on Pinterest and Instagram.

Let's take a look!

Colors Used:
  • Orly - Oh Cabana Boy
  • Orly - Liquid Vinyl
  • Orly - French Tip White

Yes, a total Orly manicure!  I've discussed in the past how awesome Orly Liquid Vinyl is.  It's by far my all time favorite black polish.  I discovered it ages ago when I was upset with Sinful Colors Black on Black drying up so fast.  Any nail artist knows, that black is a staple color that is needed for many different designs.  Nothing is more frustrating when you go to use that black and it's all goopy and leaves goopy dots or those little streaky hair pieces behind when trying to use it.  I can get to the very bottom of my bottle of Orly Liquid Vinyl before that starts happening.  I can always count on my bottle being perfect when I need it to be!

Orly is really impressing me a lot lately with their polishes and formulas.  Their creams are always smooth and apply in two coats, and their neons are the brightest of bright.  Melt Your Popsicle and Glowstick just amaze me each time I see them.  Then just seeing the perfection that is Oh Cabana Boy.  It applies evenly in two coats and dries somewhat matte like many neons do.  It has a subtle blue shimmer to the hot pink which makes it that much more amazing and unique compared to other neon pinks. I own.  For my manicure, I added a matte top coat, so when it dries, it is not that matte as shown.

This was my first time using the French Tip White.  It has a funky brush which is meant for it to literally be a polish for french tips, but I decided to use it as a base.  Took a bit of time to apply due to the funky brush, but it was really worth it.  Such a perfect white, again another must have in a nail artists collection.

As I said, I added a matte top coat to my nails because I was really feeling the matte vibe when I did them.  I love the look of matte black nails and matte designs like on the middle and ring finger.  I put down a base of glossy base before I put down my matte because I find that it has more even coverage.  This was also a trick that the lovely ladies of The Beauty Buffs shared with me.  So happy they did because my matte manicures are awesome because of it!

What do you think?  Loving the look?  Fan of Orly?  Have you seen the CosmoProf sneak peeks of their new collections coming out soon?  I must have them all.

Goodness this post turned out longer than I thought it would!  Hope you all have a great day!!

Until next time, <3.

The Beauty Buffs: Black and White

8:00:00 AM

Hello again!  How are you all?  Today is Wednesday and that means it is time for another post alongside with the lovely Beauty Buffs!  This is such a wonderful and fun group of ladies, and I'm very happy to be posting with them every other week!  Just as I am very happy to be posting with the amazing Twinsies every Tuesday!  I'm a lucky blogger to have gotten to know all these awesome people!

Today our theme is black and white.  I'm a fan of black and white, especially when it comes to dress clothes.  Black pants, a nice black and white blouse, or a pretty black and white dress....you can never go wrong.  Especially because 99% of my crazy manicures will go with a black and white outfit.  This logic could actually be reversed and I could wear super bright clothes alongside a black and white manicure and it would match 99% of the time as well.

For today, instead of doing a complete black and white manicure, I wanted to add a splash of color because I feel all I've been wearing clothing wise is black and white.  Actually, today I'm wearing a black and white dress, and a complete black and white manicure with it would have probably made me feel like I was matching a little too much.  Also since it's still summer, I feel like I have to wear some sort of bright color on my nails.  Let's take a look!

Colors Used:
  • Color Club - Over the Moon
  • Orly - French Tip White
  • Orly - Liquid Vinyl
My black is a little iffy looking, but overall I think it turned out well!  To get the look, I followed a tutorial by Chelsea Queen which I cannot get to at the moment because Pinterest is being dumb and won't load properly on my computer.  I'll try to link it on my Facebook page when I upload this manicure later.

Until then, I shall explain the technique.  With a nail art brush, I painted two lines down my nail, then created a chevron pattern using the white polish.  I then filled in some of the spaces with the white polish.  Then I went through and filled in the empty spaces with my black polish.  Let it dry a little, add a top coat, and call it a night!

It was actually a pain in the butt to do the design.  My lines weren't perfect and then I flooded cuticles or put the black and white in the wrong spots.  I literally think that middle finger was done 4 times.  I should have stopped around attempt number 2 but it was worth it.

I'm happy I paired it with the holo Over the Moon.  In the sun, this manicure looks really awesome, and kind of trippy due to the chevron checkerboard that is accenting it.  I'll try to get a photo today once the rain clears up and post that on my Instagram!

What do you think?  Liking the black and white look?  Liking that I added a bit of color?

Don't forget to check out the other Beauty Buffs!

Until next time, <3.

Twinsie Tuesday

Twinsie Tuesday: Inspired by a Book

9:00:00 AM

Happy Tuesday polished world!  Can you believe that Tuesday is already here again?  Crazy.  But that means it is Twinsie Tuesday!  Today we are posting manicures inspired by a book.

Now I haven't been reading much lately at all.  After I finished Fault in Our Stars, I kind of started using my Nook for games instead of actual reading.  Especially since Allegiant has been annoying me so much.  It's been months and I can't finish it.  Therefore I wasn't going to paint my nails to match it.

So what to do what to do.  Well, while searching around the wonderful world of Instagram, I stumbled upon this adorable whale manicure and had to re-create it right away.  While I was painting the little guys on my nails, it hit me....the background of my Nook is a little Moby Dick whale!

In the end, my manicure is inspired by my Nook, which is inspired by a book, which I don't think I ever read.  Let's take a look!

Colors Used:
  • Sinful Colors - Endless Blue
  • Sinful Colors - Blue Lucite
  • Sinful Colors - Cool Grey
  • OPI - Love Angel Music Baby
  • Orly Instant Artist White and Black

The original manicure is so much better than mine.  I'm very meh about it.  I think it's because my whale was kind of weird looking.  I think he would have been cuter in blue like the original one.  Also, I love the yellow nautical nail way more than mine.  Ehhh.  Oh well.

I should have taken a photo of the cute whale on my thumb.  Yes, it's in the whole hand photo, but it's not a macro which would have been super adorable.  He was really my only favorite nail of this whole manicure.  Okay, that's a tad of a lie, Endless Blue is gorgeous and a polish I need to use way more often.

For reference, this is the background of my  Nook.  Who knew you could do a screen cap on one!  I may or may not have scrolled over a page from my main one so you couldn't see that literally all I do is play games.  I may or may not be playing Kardashian Hollywood....may or may not.  Anywho, I just love the little background and think he's so cute.  I guess my guy does kind of look like him!

What do you think?  Liking the look?

Don't forget to check out the other Twinsies!

Dry Brush Mani

Salon Perfect Neon Pop Grunge Nails

9:00:00 AM

Happy Sunday polished world!  How are you all today?  Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend.  Why are weekends so short?  It literally feels like yesterday was Friday and the weekend was just beginning. Goodness, time moves too fast.

Today I have a fun neon manicure using some of the Salon Perfect Neon Pop! polishes.  I received these polishes as a prize during the #NailGlossip Twitter chat a month or so ago!  Speaking of #NailGlossip, I think it's tonight at 9pm EST, so you really should join in!

After seeing this manicure by Casey Lane Loves Polish, I knew I had to use these neon polishes to recreate the look!  In the past, I have done grunge manicures but this one is my all time favorite!  It looks so 80s retro!

Enough of my babbling about it, let's take a look!

Colors Used:

Awesome, right?  Now while I have seven of the colors listed, I didn't technically use all seven on each of the nails.  For instance, I think Flamingo Flair was used on two out of ten nails just to blend in some colors and fill up random white bald spots.

I started with a base coat of Sugar Cube which is Salon Perfect's white polish.  Awesome application for a white polish.  I used two coats and there were no streaks.  Definitely adding it to my list of must have whites, although I might not be purchasing it when this bottle runs out.  My WalMart has a really cruddy selection of Salon Perfect's and unfortunately they are abused by the customers who feel it is necessary to paint the display and give themselves manicures while they shop.  I think SP needs to put themselves into a Rite Aid or something.

Anywho, when my white base was dry, I took my colors and started brushing them on the nail.  I used the technique which Chalkboard Nails taught us in her grunge manicure tutorial.  It's hard for me to explain, but you wipe practically all the polish off the brush so that the bristles have just enough on them.  Then you swipe it randomly along your nail so it looks like brush strokes.  I do this with one color at a time and fill in the empty spaces.

This is the first time I did horizontal and vertical stripes and I'm really loving how it came together.  Last two manicures I did, I just went down the nail.  Yes, it looked awesome, but this just looks so much better in my opinion.

What do you think?  Loving the look?

I'm loving these Salon Perfect neons.  Such a great prize!  Thank you so much to the ladies of #NailGlossip and Salon Perfect!

Until next time, <3.
