The One With the Poinsettia Nail Art Re-Creation

Good morning polished world!!  How are you all doing on this cold day?  We are getting some snow, not as much as I would like, but some.  You might think I'm crazy for wanting snow, but December is the only month where I truly like snow.  After December 25th it becomes annoying and a bother.  There's just something about a white Christmas.

I'm back today with another Christmas manicure!  So far so good on keeping that promise to myself of posting only Christmas designs this month.  Actually painted another last night so that means I'll have another post in the next few days.  Anyways, today's design is a re-creation of one of my favorites from last year....my poinsettia design!!!

Switched up the accent nail a little bit due to sheer laziness, and made the leaves a tad smaller, and overall loving it.  Let's take a look!

Isn't it lovely??  Kind of love it more than last year's design.  The one thing that bothered me last year was that the leaves were large and I felt like it took over design and took away from the poinsettia.  This year, the red flower really stands out and the leaves are in the background just like they are on the real plant.

Sunset Blvd and Invite Only are from last years ORLY Holiday collection.  These two polishes are the BEST Christmas polishes.  The green applies in two coats.  Last year I had a problem with bubbling and had to add a top coat of Northern Lights, but this year no bubbles.  Must have been I applied it too thick or didn't let the coats dry long enough.  Who knows.  Sunset Blvd also applied in two coats.  Just a gorgeous, bright, Christmas red.

And one of my favorites this time of year - Glam Glitter.  I won this polish a few years ago and am shocked that the red didn't bleed and that the polish itself didn't dry up.  Small gold hexes, mixed with green and red pieces.  The best Christmas glitter.

The One With the Poinsettia Nail Art

Merry Christmas polished world!  Cannot believe that it is actually Christmas Day!  I'm kind of upset with myself that I didn't get more Christmas designs up on the blog.  I think it's because I had a late start this year. Oh well, there's always next year!

Today I am bringing you an all new Christmas design that I have never done before!  For years I have seen other bloggers paint poinsettia's on their nails.  After seeing janet_m1's manicure on Instagram, I finally had the confidence to try the look on my own nails!

Colors Used:
  • ORLY - Sunset Blvd
  • ORLY - Invite Only
  • Serendipity Polish - Glitzy Gold Champagne
  • Salon Perfect - Glam Glitter

I think this is my all time favorite Christmas manicure!  All the polishes work wonderfully together.  Serendipity Polish Glitzy Gold Champagne is a gorgeous light gold metallic polish with gold sparkles in it.  Two coats and perfect coverage.  Was not shocked because it is a Serendipity Polish.  Dried super fast so I was able to add the art and the glitter gradient.

I did the glitter gradient using Salon Perfect Glam Glitter.  This is the perfect Christmas glitter wiht gold and green microglitter and large red hexed glitter.  I thought I was going to have a trouble doing the gradient because of the density of the red glitter, but it actually worked really well.


Now to talk about the gorgeous ORLY polishes.  I purchased the whole ORLY Sunset Strip Holiday 2016 collection because I've been really missing my ORLY limited edition collections.  I won't have that problem next year though since I signed up for the ORLY Color Pass.

Anyways, Sunset Blvd is a gorgeous red shimmer polish which had complete coverage in two coats.  I used three because I wanted the red shimmer to really stand out.  Invite Only is a gorgeous green crelly which is perfect for Christmas.  I applied the second coat before the first was completely dried, so there was a little bit of bubbling, so I added a top coat of INM Northern Lights, which honestly was a great decision.  Look how gorgeous the holo sparkle is on top of that green!

China Glaze

The One With the Butterfly Wings

It's Saturday!  Finally!!!!!!  This week has been extremely crazy and honestly I didn't even realize it was going to be Saturday until I started drafting this post last night.  How many of you have had a week like that where you can't even remember what day it is?

Today I'm sharing with you some monarch nails.  Each year I do this design and try to switch it up a bit.  Actually, last year I think I did this look twice, once orange, and once with a sunset looking gradient.  Maybe I'm delusional due to the whole busy week and am messing up what year I did what.

This year's monarch nails are a fun neon gradient.  Let's take a look!

Wouldn't monarchs look awesome if they looked like this??  I'm sure that there is some sort of blue/minty looking butterfly, but I doubt it has a monarch pattern.  I actually wore this manicure at a butterfly release at work, and the people who came to do the program were talking about how cool it would be if monarchs looked like this.  Maybe someone can breed one....


I've owned Salon Perfect Gone Sailing for awhile now, and I have not used it enough.  I feel like it's a dupe of China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise , which makes sense since Salon Perfect and China Glaze are the same company.  It's  beautiful shimmery shade which really blended with the other polishes well.


Love, love, love this gradient!  The more I look at it the more I love it.  I think I might have to re-create it and use it as a base for another design.  Although, now that I've done it with the butterfly wings, it probably won't look as good as a base for another design.  Won't know until I try!

The One With Round 22 of Bestie Twin Nails with Fashion Footing

Good morning polished world!  How are you all doing today?  St. Patrick's Day is Thursday!  Are your nails all green and ready!?  You know that mine for sure are!  Especially for today's Bestie Twin Nail post with Fashion Footing!

We are getting close to the two year mark of doing this feature.  Can you believe that?  Seriously feels like just yesterday we started.  Now two years later, I've forced Amanda to do nail art and she's liking it.

Today we decided to do a green gradient with a gold dry brush over the top.  Since Amanda didn't want to do shamrocks, this was one of the most St. Patrick-y thing we could come up with.

  • Salon Perfect - Champagne Toast
  • OPI - Love Angel Music Baby
Love how this turned out.  At first I wasn't feeling it, but after the top coat was on, I was in love.  I started off with a base coat of Sinful Colors Chalk It Up.  Such a gorgeous polish, which I used in my leopard gradient I posted a few days ago.  It dried with a semi matte finish since it is one of their demi-mattes.  Usually I find that mattes are hard to work with, but this one was easy peasy.

With a make up sponge, I added Hunter to the tips of my nails.  I wasn't sure I was going to like it at first, but it looked kind of neat.  I need to do more of the same color gradients on my nails.



Champagne Toast was a spur of the moment addition to the manicure.  I wanted the gradient to really pop and was between this and Northern Lights.  I went with the Salon Perfect because it was gold and well, St Patrick's Day is all about that pot of gold!  When that was dried, which seemed to be forever, I added a dry brush of OPI Love Angel Music Baby.  If I owned a gold flakie, I probably would have opted for that because the dry brush kind of got lost on top of the nail.

Happy New Years!

Good morning polished world!  Can you believe it is the last day of 2015!?  Where did this year go?!  It's been loaded with some ups and downs, but through each thing there have been dozens upon dozens of blessings.  Who can be angry with that??

Today I am sharing with you a New Years manicure I did for part of an Instagram collaboration.  I really haven't done many IG collabs, so I was super thrilled when Sarah from @25_SweetPea asked if I wanted to take part!  I quickly got to work on a gold and black manicure and came up with this little mish mosh design!

I love how this manicure turned out!  I really had no idea what I was going to do when I started, and then I just started going and it all came together!  I truly am in love with it and am going to be sad when it starts to chip!

So let's take a minute o talk about Bring on the Bubbly by China Glaze.  It is a gold multi hex glitter with these random pieces of holo glitter throughout.  There are even these large holo chunks which sparkle off the gold.  Ugh, I'm so happy I picked up a bottle of this.  I used it as a topper on all my gold nails and then for the glitter gradient.  Best decision ever.  If you can, grab a bottle of this!



Another wonky colored photo that doesn't look like the rest.  Meh whatever.  I'm too lazy to figure out why.  Maybe I should start using my real camera again instead of the iPad for the bottle shots.  Or I should just not be lazy and use my lightbox.  Maybe in 2016!

Bestie Twin Nails with Fashion Footing: Round 19!

Good morning polished world!  How are you all doing??  I meant to have a post up yesterday but I felt really under the weather Thursday night when I planned on getting it all ready.  Then all day yesterday I felt like I was beat up from not feeling well the day before.  Ugh, just annoying.  I blame the weather.  This abnormal warmth then right down to 30 degrees the next day....it needs to stop.

Today is Round 19 of Bestie Twin Naills with Fashion Footing!  This month we decided to do a festive Christmas manicure.  Amanda took a gander through my Christmas Nail Art Idea board on Pinterest and liked this Christmas tree manicure by Sensationails4U on Instagram.

I wasn't too fond of this manicure at first, but now I'm really starting to love it, especially now after editing the photos!  The Christmas tree was a pain in the bootie to do, so that's why I really wasn't a fan of it.  I originally tried to paint the trees on using acrylic paint, but for the life of me I couldn't get the tree to look right.  This was very odd to me because I have never had a problem using acrylics to create art.

So I went to my polish drawers and found Chita.  I always have luck when it comes to using the Pixie Dust polishes for art.  They're easy to work with, maneuver around, and dry fast.  AKA perfect nail art polish!  After two tries, I was able to get my little tree!



I am absolutely in love with the red nails.  I'm not a huge fan of red, but He's With Me is just gorgeous!  As I said in a previous post, He's With Me is a dupe of China Glaze Ruby Pumps.  With an added top coat of INM Northern Lights, it is beyond gorgeous.  I almost can see myself doing all 10 nails like this.  Almost....

And I'm so happy to be holding a bottle of my favorite white - My Boyfriend Scales Walls.  I hit the jackpot and found a beauty supply store which had 6 bottles for sale.  During Black Friday, this store ran a 3 for $16 deal on OPI polishes!  Soooo all 6 bottles became mine.  Well 3 are for Amanda, 3 are for me.  Added to my extra bottle I already have, I am now safe to use this polish again because of my back up of 4 bottles.

Holly Jolly Holly Nail Art

Good morning polished world!  How are you all doing today??  It's Friday which means tomorrow is what I have now renamed to Sleep In Day.  It's still unseasonably warm here.  It is expected to be in the upper 50s today, and then possibly in the 60s this weekend.  I cannot believe it because this time last year we had snow on the ground.  It just does not feel like December 11th.

Despite it not feeling like December 11th and that Christmas is right around the corner, I still have to be festive and create holiday manicures.  Part of me is feeling more in the Christmas spirit now that my Nine Zero Christmas polishes arrived.  They weren't used for today's manicure but my next post should.

While I was waiting for my Nine Zero Lacquers, I dug around in my Melmer and found some very Christmas-y looking polishes.  I decided to do a holly design since I never really have done one before.  My mind started thinking and I came up with this little mani.

  • FingerPaints - Paper Mache
  • Salon Perfect - He's With Me
  • Zoya - Chita

I forgot what a gorgeous polish Chita is.  It's one of the original formula Pixie Dust polishes.  It has full coverage in one coat, but I decided to go for two with this manicure.  I didn't have a reason behind it other than I feel weird just having one coat of polish on my nails.

He's With Me....awful name, gorgeous polish.  It's a dupe of China Glaze Red Ruby Pumps.  I won this polish last year during a Nail It! Magazine giveaway and I'm super happy to have it as part of my collection.  It's a red jelly pack with super super tiny microglitter.  I absolutely love it, and I'm not a huge fan of red polishes.


To get the look, I started off with a base of white polish.  When that was dried, I used a dotting tool and added the little holly berries.  I then used a toothpick and drew on the leaves using Chita.  I find it's eaiser to use a toothpick instead of a nail art brush when working with the Pixie Dusts for art because they are so packed with glitter it can clump up on the brush and become unworkable.  You definitely have more control when using a toothpick.  You could also use the your smallest dotting tool.

You'll have to bear with me for a little bit when it comes to my photos.  So I got this brilliant idea to start taking photos in my room using my lamp instead of using my lightbox.  I figured it would be easier, especially for bottle shots since all my polishes are right there.  Yeah, well it ends up being a nightmare for photo editing.  Then my sets of photos don't look the same.  I do like the bottle shots using the polishes I used.  I need to set up my Ottlight in my room and see if it would be any better.  Maybe the Ottlight and a black shirt for a back drop?  I don't know, I have to try.  Easiest solution would be to take the polish too my lightbox, but I would love to phase my old busted lightbox out.  It's so broken and beat up.  My dad did buy me a professional one, but I need my Ottlight and room for it.  Ugh....the problems of being a nail blogger.

I'll figure it all out.  Let me know if you're liking the new bottle shots or if I should go back to the INM bottle.

Gradient Mani

Tropical Palm Tree Nail Art

Morning polished world!  How are you all doing today??  I hope you have had a GREAT week and have an AMAZING weekend planned!  I'm not so sure what I have planned yet, but I do know I will be catching up on some sleep.  Honestly, I'm writing this post late Thursday night and my eyes are crossing as I type it because I am so exhausted.  I need to not only work on my blogging schedule, but I also have to work on my sleep schedule!

Every summer since I have started this blog, I have created a palm tree manicure.  In 2012, it was kind of a fail, 2013 was amazing, then 2014 again a fail.  This year though I think it is my best ever!  The palms are detailed, the gradient is very tropical sunset....all around perfect.

Colors Used:
  • Salon Perfect - Tickled Pink
  • Salon Perfect - Summer Escape
  • Orly - Push the Limit
  • Orly - French White
  • Orly - Instant Artist Black

I started off with a base coat of Orly French White.  This polish is awesome and I think everyone should go and get it.  It comes with a small brush used for french tips which makes it impossible to paint on the nail.  Amanda from Fashion Footing had the brilliant idea that I should put an old brush into it so I could make it usable.  Best idea ever.

When my white base was dried, I took a make up sponge and did a gradient of Push the Limit, Tickled Pink, and Summer Escape.  These neons were so bright, but created the most gorgeous gradient on my nails.  I think I may have to re-create the base for a tribal design in the future.


Once the gradient was how I liked it, I went through with my trusty Orly Instant Artist striper and created the palm trees.  I can't really describe how I did it, so maybe I will film a tutorial to show you all!  Would you be interested in that??

Twinsie Tuesday: Mattify!

Good morning polished world!  How are you all today?  I hope every one had a very calm and relaxing Memorial Day weekend!  I skipped posting this weekend because I was fully enjoying the weather and the three day vacation.

Today is Tuesday (which feels like a Monday), which means it is time for another Twinsie Tuesday.  Our theme today is "mattify!" which means it's time for some good old matte nail art!  Now, I love matte nails on other people, but on me I feel like they just look odd.  Maybe it's my nail length or shape.  Maybe I'm just overthinking it.  Who knows.

I was going to do a floral design today, but then I saw this cute tribal looking manicure by Nail That Accent.  I just had to re-create it!

Colors Used:
  • Salon Perfect - Tickled Pink
  • Salon Perfect - Sugar Cube
  • Black Acrylic
  • Out the Door Matte Top Coat
See?  I think they look weird on me!  Mine are no where as good as Lindsay's!

I used Tickled Pink from Salon Perfect.  It's such a pretty neon pink polish which is a lot brighter than what it is photographing as.  It had a weird formula like most neons do.  I had to use 3 coats to even out all the patchiness.  Honestly, I think the topcoat was the real reason as to why it evened out.  Despite the bad formula, it's a gorgeous color and I think it will be great to create gradients with.  Maybe even water marble.  It dries matte on it's own, but I added a matte top coat because there was a tad bit of shine finding it's way through.


For my matte top coat, I used INM Out the Door Matte.  I used this once before and had an awful experience with it and refused to ever try it again.  Since that time two years ago, I have received two other bottles of the top coat.  I decided to give one of my newer bottles a try to see if it did the same awful shrinking and shriveling the other did.  This one was great and I have zero complaints.

Just like when I use my OPI Matte top coat, I first went through and added a shiny topcoat.  This way the designs are sealed in, and I think it prevents the shrinking too.  For my shiny, I used plain old Out the Door.  When it was completely dry, I used one coat of the Matte and everything turned out well!

Neon Manicure with FingerPaints Think Outside the Box

Happy Saturday polished world!  How are you all today?  I hope your first day of Spring was awesome and you have some warmer weather where you are.  I would love to say that we are experiencing some Spring like weather here, but we are most certainly not.  It snowed a good portion of the day yesterday, but at least it melted.  All we really have left are those dirty and disgusting snow mounds.  Nothing is grosser than black snow.

Anywho, today I am sharing a manicure I did a few weeks ago when I was really getting annoyed with winter.  I decided to bust out some neon polishes and pretend that it was summer time.  Plus, I got an awesome new black and white matte glitter polish I had been dying to use, and these types of glitter toppers look amazing against neons.

  • Salon Perfect - Flamingo Flair
  • FingerPaints - Patent Black
  • FingerPaints - Paper Mache
  • FingerPaints - Think Outside the Box
So much neon that my camera freaked out a tad!  I won 12 bottles of Salon Perfect neon polishes last year during a #NailGlossip twitter chat, and they are such a great prize!  I cannot wait to start using all them again!  Especially for gradients because I truly believe that neon polishes are the best to use when it comes to creating them!

Think Outside the Box by FingerPaints is an awesome black and white matte glitter topper.  There are numerous sized glitters, some even larger than what I put onto my nail.  I applied one, yes one, coat to my index and pinkie finger and got complete coverage.  You can see how there literally are micro to large mixed in with those black bar glitters.  My only suggestion to FingerPaints would be to lessen up on the bar glitter, but that's a personal preference thing because I am not a huge fan of that shape.



See, the amount of bar glitter was heavier on the index versus the pinkie.  If you go with a lighter hand you can leave some of the bars on the brush.  Overall, it is great.

 Think Outside the Box is one of FingerPaints new polishes which is part of their permanent line, and is available now at Sally Beauty Supply stores.

The Salon Perfects I believe are available still at Walmart.  Some of the colors are identical to China Glaze core neons so you should be able to snag them either way.  Flamingo Flair is very similar to ChG Flip Flop Fantasy, and Tickled Pink I believe is similar to Shocking Pink.  I don't own the pink ChG so I can't be positive, but that's the color that pops into my head when I think of this Salon Perfect.  Don't you just love that China Glaze bottles their polishes and sells them cheaper in the Salon Perfect line?

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone!  I hope you all have had an amazing Christmas Eve and have an awesome Christmas Day planned!  While you are all out celebrating and enjoying the time with your loved ones, don't forget the real reason for the season.  Without Christ, there would be no Christmas.  I swear, if I see one more person write Xmas, I may scream.

Anywho, today I am bringing you one last festive Christmas manicure.  I won some Christmas polishes from Salon Perfect in a giveaway by Nail It! Magazine.  Honestly, I do not even remember entering the contest, so it was quite the pleasant surprise when I found out!  I received a shipment notification and the estimated delivery date was 12/23 so I was rather upset thinking that I wasn't going to be able to use these awesome Christmas polishes.  Thankfully, the package showed up on the 22nd so I had plenty of time to create a manicure.  Sure I only used two of the six polishes, but hey there's always next year!

I really was obsessing over Christmas Cookie as soon as I opened the package.  This polish is a matte circle glitter set in a clear base.  I have absolutely nothing like this in my collection and I have always been a fan of the Indie lines and their circle glitters.  I had to dab and place the glitter on the nail over two coats of Pistache, but it was well worth it in the end.

He's With Me is such a pretty red polish.  It's a dupe of China Glaze Red Ruby Pumps which is a polish I have been eyeing for a long time.  I'm not a huge fan of reds, so I never bought it because I never thought I would use it.  Now that I have it though, I'm going to put it to use.  Absolutely love it!



I decided to do a Gingerbread man accent because I thought he would look cute next to Christmas Cookie.  And well, gingerbread men are Christmas cookies.  I wish the second part of that statement was part of my reasoning for picking that accent, but I literally just came to that conclusion as I was typing this post.  The real reason why I picked a gingerbread man was because the Christmas tree design I tried to do failed miserably and I literally had no idea what else to do.  I remembered a friend of mine showed me a gingerbread manicure a few weeks ago so I went with him!

Salon Perfect Neon Pop Grunge Nails

Happy Sunday polished world!  How are you all today?  Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend.  Why are weekends so short?  It literally feels like yesterday was Friday and the weekend was just beginning. Goodness, time moves too fast.

Today I have a fun neon manicure using some of the Salon Perfect Neon Pop! polishes.  I received these polishes as a prize during the #NailGlossip Twitter chat a month or so ago!  Speaking of #NailGlossip, I think it's tonight at 9pm EST, so you really should join in!

After seeing this manicure by Casey Lane Loves Polish, I knew I had to use these neon polishes to recreate the look!  In the past, I have done grunge manicures but this one is my all time favorite!  It looks so 80s retro!

Enough of my babbling about it, let's take a look! 




Colors Used:
  • Salon Perfect - Sugar Cube, Traffic Cone, Yowza Yellow, Loopy Lime, Gone Sailing, Perky Pink, Fired Up Fuschia,  and Flamingo Flair
Awesome, right?  Now while I have seven of the colors listed, I didn't technically use all seven on each of the nails.  For instance, I think Flamingo Flair was used on two out of ten nails just to blend in some colors and fill up random white bald spots.

I started with a base coat of Sugar Cube which is Salon Perfect's white polish.  Awesome application for a white polish.  I used two coats and there were no streaks.  Definitely adding it to my list of must have whites, although I might not be purchasing it when this bottle runs out.  My WalMart has a really cruddy selection of Salon Perfect's and unfortunately they are abused by the customers who feel it is necessary to paint the display and give themselves manicures while they shop.  I think SP needs to put themselves into a Rite Aid or something.

Anywho, when my white base was dry, I took my colors and started brushing them on the nail.  I used the technique which Chalkboard Nails taught us in her grunge manicure tutorial.  It's hard for me to explain, but you wipe practically all the polish off the brush so that the bristles have just enough on them.  Then you swipe it randomly along your nail so it looks like brush strokes.  I do this with one color at a time and fill in the empty spaces.


This is the first time I did horizontal and vertical stripes and I'm really loving how it came together.  Last two manicures I did, I just went down the nail.  Yes, it looked awesome, but this just looks so much better in my opinion.
