Vintage Rose Manicure with Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Polishes

Good morning polished world!  How are you all today?  I'm doing quite well!  I'm actually quite proud of myself that I'm getting this post up today.  Usually when I go through and do a batch of photo editting, I decide to skip the post and give myself a day off.  For some reason though, I have a spurt of blogging energy and am here with another post!

Today's post is a manicure I did with three of the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel polishes.  I have seen mixed reviews in regards to this line, but was really eager to try them.  As a person who tends to keep their manicures on for 3-4 days, I'm always looking for something with longevity that also has a wide variety of colors.

Today's rose manicure I'm sharing with you was done before Tuesday's blue daisy manicure using Tidal Wave.  I can tell you that my first experience was great and I'm excited to use them more often! Especially for nail art!

Let's take a look at my manicure!




Colors Used:
  • Sally Hansen - Pink Cadillaquer
  • Sally Hansen - B-Girl
  • Sally Hansen - Wet My Thistle
  • Sally Hansen - Fuchsia Flare
Let's start off talking about B-Girl.  Such an awesome light blue/mint tinted polish.  Really something I do not own in my collection and I'm thrilled it is part of it now.  Applied evenly in two coats with a really brilliant shine without top coat.

Pink Cadillaquer is such a pretty pale pink polish.  Applied evenly in 2 coats, if you are light when you apply coats, you might need to do three for full coverage.  I didn't have a problem though with two.  It also worked great as a nail art polish.  It covered over B-Girl and the white lines perfectly for the base of the roses.  It also didn't dry too fast so it was easy to work with and to get the shape I wanted to in regards to the rose.

Wet My Thistle is an awesome light green polish which I can see myself using a lot for floral manicures.  It reminds me of FingerPaints Grassy Knoll which has become one of my favorite greens.  I'm very happy to have it as part of my collection because you can never have too many greens that are this shade.  I'll for sure be using it as a base for a manicure in the near future.


When it came to top coat, I decided to use both my INM Out the Door and the Miracle Gel top coat to test the longevity of the polish.  My index and ring finger had Out the Door, and my middle and pinkie had the Miracle Gel top coat.  After three days, the wear on the nails were identical.  There were no major chips, and the edges didn't shrink.  I preferred my Out the Door because it dried a lot quicker than the Miracle Gel top coat.

Twinsie Tuesday: Inspired by Your Car

Good morning polished world!  How are you all doing today?  I'm sitting here in shock that it is yet again another Tuesday.  Seriously people, where is the time going??  Didn't I just post a Twinsie Tuesday post yesterday!?  Sigh.

This week for Twinsie Tuesday we are sharing manicures which are inspired by our cars.  Now my car is "Magnetic Grey Metallic" which is a very pretty color.  I love it so much that it is definitely going to be the color of my next car.  Now, I even though I love my car and the color of it, I didn't really want to match my nails to it because my life is so busy that I do not have time to do swatching of plain polishes and I didn't want to have gray nails for 3 days.

So I went on Pinterest and I searched "Fun cars" and came across this pin.  You know me and my love of florals.  I would totally drive a daisy car around town, especially a blue one.  So I decided to match my nails to that pretty daisy vehicle.

  • Sally Hansen - Tidal Wave
  • Acrylics
Tidal Wave from Sally Hansen is from the Miracle Gel collection.  Goodness this polish is perfect.  Two coats and it was full coverage of the most gorgeous blue ever.  I love the brush in these bottles.  I only have to swipe twice to get full coverage across my nail.  Love love love.

Now, I kind of cheated and used my own quick dry top coat instead of the Miracle Gel Top Coat because I was in a hurry and wanted to go to bed.  Well that was a mistake because it kind of shrunk the tips.  I don't know if the quick dry topper is to blame or if I didn't let the base dry enough.  I literally slapped this manicure together in a matter of a half hour.


I love the little daisies.  The more I look at the photos, they kind of look like weird sunny side up eggs.  I swear they are daisies!

Purple Floral Nail Art

Good morning polished world!  Happy Sunday.  Goodness, another Sunday.  Where did the weekend go??  I feel like there aren't enough hours in the days anymore.  Time needs to slow down!

Well, Spring is in the air, and I'm not upset that winter months flew by.  Now that it's Spring, I've been addicting to floral designs.  I have had to stop myself and remember there are other types of manicures other than floral ones!

Today I am sharing with you a purple floral design I did a few weeks ago.  I want to call them roses, but they kind of look more like carnations.  Regardless, I love them.

  • OPI - You're Such a Budapest
  • NYC New York Color - Jacaranda Flower
  • FingerPaints - Grassy Knoll
  • Zoya - Josie

See how they kind of look like carnations and not roses?  I think that is because of the complete outline that I did around the flower.  Typically when I do roses, I just do a few messy lines to resemble the petals.  This design has more of a uniform look which makes the flowers different.  I really don't know how to explain it.....


I think all these colors worked wonderfully together.  Each polish is magnificent for nail art as well.  I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to use Jacaranda Flower to create the dark purple details because it is a quick dry polish.  Typically quick dry polishes get goopy and are really hard to work with when it comes to making lines.  I am now sold on these In a Minute NYC polishes for nail art.  Cheap with dozens of colors = one happy nail art Alaina.

An Orly Dry Brush Mani

Good morning polished world!  How are you all today?  It's yet again another Friday!  We all know how much I love Friday!  I will ignore the fact that it snowed yesterday and that it is again freezing all because it is Friday and I can sleep in tomorrow!

Today I am posting a manicure I did a month ago but never got around to posting.  I kind of fail when it comes to editing photos.  I have a folder that fills up and I typically only begin to edit photos when I literally have nothing to post.  So as you can guess, I ran out of posts and sat two nights ago and editted so many photos that I don't want to do it again for awhile.

This manicure was one of my favorites that I've ever done, so I'm kind of upset it took me so long to get it on to the blog.  I am a huge fan of Orly and I have always had my eye on Skinny Dip, a fun neon blue polish.  Sally Beauty was having a sale on Orly's a few weeks ago so I decided to finally purchase it along with some back up bottles of Liquid Vinyl, and a new-to-me color Purple Crush.

Of course I was itching to use them all together, so I came up with this manicure.  Let's take a look!




Colors Used:
  • Orly - Skinny Dip, Liquid Vinyl, Purple Crush
  • Sinful Colors - Snow Me White
Let me take a minute and beg Orly to create a white polish that isn't that dang French Tip White one or whatever it is called.  As many of you know, Liquid Vinyl is my all time favorite black polish, and I know that if Orly created a regular white polish with a normal brush, it would be just as perfect as Liquid Vinyl.  Honestly, all of my Orly polishes are perfection.  The formulas are consistent, and they never dry up.



I'm so happy that Skinny Dip is part of my collection.  It's such a pretty, bright, neon blue.  Until I purchased the Electric Nights polishes from China Glaze, I did not have a single blue like this one.  It is different than the China Glaze ones because it does have a slight shimmer.  I almost prefer the shimmer because it is unique and really goes perfectly with the shade it self.  I used 2 coats and added a shiny top coat because like most neons, it dries matte.

Twinsie Tuesday: Scented Polish.....kind of

Good morning polished world!  How are you all today?  I'm doing alright.  Kind of in a weird mood, so I'm hoping that doesn't mean I'm getting sick.  I honestly cannot pinpoint why I feel weird, I just do.  On top of it, the last few nights I tried to do different manicures and NOTHING has been working out.  I wore a plain cream polish yesterday.....that's right, a plain.cream.polish.  Maybe I am getting sick.

Today is Tuesday which means it is time for another Twinsie Tuesday.  This weeks theme is Scented Polish.  I shall start off this post by saying I do not own a single scented polish, nor did I go out and buy one for just this post.  I have a sensitivity to fragrances, and I really didn't think it would be a good idea to have scented nails in case that gave me a problem.  I honestly would have ended up with a migraine from it.

But I am not going to sit out this weeks post.  I got inspiration from a manicure I did for one of my residents using a scented polish.  When I did this lady's nails, I used a purple Revlon polish which smelled like grapes.  She wanted all 10 of her nails purple, and then a single daisy on her ring finger.  So I took inspiration from her scented manicure and created this crazy daisy design, which she approved of and said was totally perfect for today's theme.

Let's take a look at my manicure inspired by one that was done with a scented polish.  I'm really stretching to be able to post with this theme.....




Colors Used:
  • China Glaze - That's Shore Bright
  • Precision Lacquer - 18 Carat Cake
  • Sinful Colors - Snow Me White
  • INM - Northern Lights - Gold
Okay, so I spun off from the purple with the daisy and did this random looking design with gold and white.  I love how it turned out.  I'm not a fan of gold polishes but when it's intermingled with purple like this, I really become one.  Precision  Lacquer 18 Carat Cake is a polish I received last year and used for a few manicures.  It disappeared in my Melmer and I forgot that I owned it until the other night when I was looking through my glitter drawer.  This polish is a very fine yellow, gold microglitter which could be used as a topper or on it's own.  I used it on it's own with three coats.
 


I love the daisies on top of the purple.  I should snap a photo tomorrow of my resident's nails because hers looked stunning with the scented polish.  The Revlon was a tad darker than That's Shore Bright, but I honestly never pass up the chance to use this pretty purple beauty.  I'm so happy that it is now part of China Glaze's core collection.  Already purchased one back up and I'm sure next time there is a sale I will be getting another!

Panda Nail Art

Good morning polished world and happy Sunday!  I can't believe it is already Sunday.  Time is speeding up it seems.  At least it has been gorgeous outside!  The daffodils are blooming, the birds are chirping.  I honestly have nothing to complain about.  Even if it is going to rain today, it's not snow.  So I can be a happy happy girl.

Today I am sharing a manicure with you that I did a few weeks ago.  It is inspired by this adorable panda manicure by Did My Nails.  I have seen plenty of panda manicures over the years, but none as cute as this one.  Dots, little pandas holding hearts, and blue....seriously, it's the perfect combination.

  • OPI - My Boyfriend Scales Walls
  • Black Acrylic
Aren't the little pandas adorable?  If I had to change anything about this manicure, it would have been to be a little neater around the eyes.  I think my little guy looked a little drunk or sad.  Regardless he was cute.

To get the look, I started off with a base coat of My Boyfriend Scales Walls.  Dear OPI, please bring this polish back ASAP.  I only have two back ups left.  Once my base was dry, I used my dotting tool to add all the little black details with the acrylic paint.  I feel like I have more control using my smallest dotting tool versus using my paint brush when it comes to adding details like this.  I had more control over the size of the circles and the shapes of the arm.



Capacity to See Beyond is a gorgeous blue and perfect for this manicure.  I'm so happy I purchased a back up of this polish when it was out.  Sure, I went to about 3 different Sally Beauty stores to find it, but I now have it and that is all that matters!

Water Color Nails with Splash Flowers

Good morning!  How are you all today?  I'm doing well.  I want to apologize for my brain fart.  I planned on having this post up yesterday, but literally forgot it was Thursday.  I'm shocked I did that since I get so excited for Friday.  I blame the 80 degree day earlier this week for throwing me off.

Anyways, better late than never.  Today I am sharing with you the nail art I added to Tuesday's watercolor manicure.  After wearing the watercolor for one day, I got a tad bored with the plainness of the nails, so I decided to go through and add a splash flower design.  The splash flowers were originally inspired by Emily over at The Lacquerologist.  I've done a few manicures with the design and it's one of my favorite, easy, go to floral patterns.

I think it was a perfect, eye catching addition to the water color design.  Let's take  look!

  • Orly Instant Artist - Black
Not much to say about the technique since I explained it in the last post.  Base, sponging, acrylic bubbles, and top coat.  Day later added the flowers with my striper brush.  Can you believe even my dots on the outside of the flowers were done with my striper brush?  I'm still kind of shocked I didn't have to pull out a dotting tool.  I think it's because my Instant Artist has seen a better day and it's getting thick.  Since it's a water based polish, I'm probably going to add some more water to it or squirt some black acrylic into the bottle.  That striper brush is one of my favorites so I'm doing everything I can to not throw it away.  I should probably just invest in some more.


Hands down, one of my all time favorite manicures.  I should make a Tag for that on the blog "Alaina's Favorite."  I'm sure by the end of the year, a good three quarters of the posts would be tagged with that.

Twinsie Tuesday

Twinsie Tuesday: Watercolor Nails!

Good morning polished world!  How are you all today?  It was in the 80s yesterday!  That's right, the 80s!!!  It's going to drop to the 60s today, but hey I will take it.  Anything is better than -5 degrees!

Today is Tuesday, which means it is time for another Twinsie Tuesday.  I can't believe how fast these posts come up.  I swear I just was posting one yesterday.  Anyways, today we are posing watercolor manicures.  Watercolor manicures are typically done using either jelly polishes over white, like in my tutorial, or using brushes and acetone.  Me + acetone = nightmare.  You can mark my words that I would have destroyed my manicure if I tried that technique.

I was too lazy and didn't have the patience for my jellies to dry, so I decided to try something different.  When I created this bubble accent nail for Twinsie Tuesday a few months ago, I thought that the base looked like a watercolor.  So I decided to re-do that for today's watercolor!

  • Sinful Colors - Snow Me White
  • China Glaze - Glow With the Flow, UV Meant to Be, Highlight of my Summer
  • FingerPaints - Frosty Lemonade
So I started off with a base coat of white polish.  I then sponged on the different colors and added a top coat to lightly blend them together.  When the top coat was COMPLETELY dry, I took acrylic paint mixed with water and put dots all over my nail.  I waited about 15 seconds and then took a Q-Tip and lightly dabbed the dots.  This sucked away the excess polish and left behind the outline of the bubble.



I think the bubbles really made it look like a water color.  It really blended the base together gorgeously and added dimension to a manicure that would have not been as stunning.

Bestie Twin Nails

Bestie Twin Nails with Fashion Footing: Round 11!

Good morning polished world!  How are you all doing today on this fine Sunday??  It's supposed to be in the 60s today and the 70s tomorrow, so you know that I am doing fabulously!!!  I have big outdoor plans early this week, so I'm really hoping all works out!  I sometimes get these plans in my head and then they flop or never work out.  So we shall see what happens!  I'll let everyone know more details as time goes on!

Today I am posting alongside Amanda from Fashion Footing for another round of Bestie Twin Nails!  This is our 11th time doing this feature!!!  I cannot believe we have been doing this for 11 months.  Where did the time go??

For today's manicure, we were inspired by this gorgeous cherry blossom design by the talented Paulina's Passions.  Kind of perfect timing that we are posting this manicure since I believe the Cherry Blossom festival is going on in DC this weekend!

Adorable, right??  I think this is the best Cherry Blossom design that I've done so far for the blog.  I love the gradient background so much!  It's kind of like you're looking up through a cherry blossom tree and are seeing the branches up against a blue sky with the white fluffy clouds!



I'm happy I decided to use a brown acrylic for my branches.  I find the acrylics are a lot easier to use when making lines or shapes like a branch.  Plus, if you mess up when using an acrylic, you can just wipe it off and start over!!

Nail Artist of the Month

April Nail Artist of the Month: Naileficent!

Good morning Polished World!  How are you all on this fine Thursday?  I'm doing well because it is Thursday and that means Saturday is almost here!  I woke up on Tuesday and kept saying to myself "ughhhhh it's only Tuesday...why isn't it Thursday?!"  Excuse me as I enjoy the fact it finally is Thursday.


I'm also enjoying the fact that I am introducing you to another Nail Artist of the Month!  For the month of April, I have selected Louice from naileficent!!  I stumbled across Louice's Instagram about a month or so ago and I knew I had to feature her.  She has some really neat manicures that I really have to re-create in the near future!

Enough of my babbling, time to hand the blog over to Louice!

Hello everyone! Is that how you start a blog post? I don't know since this is my first time ever. Sweet Alaina asked me to be her nail artist of the month and thank you so much for that! This is such a fun opportunity since I have never, as I said, written a blog post before.

Anyway, my name is Louice and I'm soon to be 18 years old (April is my birthday month, yay) who lives is Sweden. I started doing nail art for roughly three and a half years ago when I, by accident, bought some silver and gold stripers from a dollar store in Sweden. It was really simple back then with just a french manicure with some gold or silver details. I dind't know anything about the huge nail art community back then. I started to watch nail art tutorials on YouTube, mostly by cutepolish, and then I was caught.

Today I paint my nails as often as I have time for it and it is one big part of my life. The best part is this funny way to be creative and the community with a lot of women, and some men, who are inspiring and encourage each other.

Okay, enough about me now. Let's move on to the manicure I did for this blogpost. I came up with this idea in the middle of the winter. So I painted it down on nearest paper and saved it for spring and the perfect occasion. This rose and tribal mani is a typical me mani, so I felt like doing this would represent my style pretty good.


The base color is from China Glaze Roadtrip collection and is called "Boho Blues." This was actually the first time trying this color and I fell in love immediately. The roses are painted with several different pink and green from OPI and the white is "Alpine Snow," also from OPI.

Twinsie Tuesday: Seasonal Opposite

Good Morning polished peeps!  How are you all today?  I'm doing well!!  Same story different day.  Eat, sleep, work, blog.  Kind of a boring life, but it's mine and I'm happy with it.  I'm also happy that Spring is slowly rearing it's head!  The end of the week is supposed to be really warm and sunny!  I cannot wait!

Today is Tuesday, so that means it is time for another Twinsie Tuesday!  We are sharing seasonal opposite manicures.  This means instead of doing a Spring themed design, we are to create something that is opposite of Spring time.

To me, Fall is the opposite of Spring.  Instead of creating a new manicure, I actually went into The Little Canvas vault and found a design I did in the Fall but never got around to sharing.  Talk about awful, I literally think I painted this in October and just edited the photos last night.  Regardless, I used a navy blue polish which was then new to my collection with a champagne gold accent because at the time I thought they were really seasonably appropriate.

I love love LOVE INM Mystic Blue.  It is such a pretty royal/navy blue shade.  It applied perfectly in two coats and dried with a lovely shiny finish.  I of course topped it with INM Out the Door so it was doubly shiny.  Best part about this blue was that it did not stain my nails.  I vividly remember that because I always am scared blues like this will stain, and when this one didn't I marked it down forever in my "Polishes that Don't Stain List" in my head.  Yes, such a thing exists in my polish crazed head.



I wish I can remember who inspired me to create this tape design.  I really should have written that down.  I do know it was one of my Instagram followers, and I'm sure when I post it there someone will speak up.  It's an honest mistake, I try my best to remember who and where I was inspired, but sometimes it is unavoidable.

What do you think?  Do you think this manicure is the opposite of Spring?  I really don't think I would grab these colors this time of year.

Happy Easter!!

Happy Easter everyone!  Let me begin by apologizing that I do not have a new manicure to share with you all!  The manicure I had planned turned into a disasticure, and then the weekend got away from me, so there really was no time to re-create it.

I didn't want to leave all my lovelies hanging on Easter though.  After much thought, I decided it would be fun to post my old manicures and take a little walk down memory lane!

Let's take a look!


While I started the blog in 2012, we are going to start our walk down memory lane in 2013.  That year I created an adorable hatching chick design, an Easter design with a cross to represent the true meaning of the day, and a peeking bunny rabbit inspired by Pshiiit Polish.  The polka dot bunny design was one of my most popular creations, and I often stumble upon it while surfing Pinterest.  Pshiit's design was much better and cleaner, so it really surprises me how many times my own design was shared.  I remember just purchasing the Sinful Colors Sugar Crush polishes and was beyond excited to use them all for these designs.  To this day I still own those polishes, and really wish they would come out with another awesome pastel collection like those.


In 2014, I created four designs as well as two tutorials!  I really need to start making more tutorials.  It's been ages since I made one and I truly miss doing so.  As you can see, I created my first jelly bean design, a peeking bunny look, a re-creation of my cross design from 2013, and another hatching chick design.  I remember when I created the jelly bean manicure, I really, really, really hated it.  I was convinced that the little jelly beans did not look like them, but instead random blobs.  They ended up being one of my most complimented designs and in turn inspired me to re-create them this year, except with a lot more jelly beans!  The tutorials I created were for the hatching chick and the Easter bunnies.  If anyone has re-created them or been inspired by those designs, please share your manicures with me!!!


We come to a close with this year's designs!  I have to say, I think these are my favorite!!  In comparison to how I painted in 2013, I can see cleaner edges, more consistent nail shape, and neater designs.  Proof that practice really does make perfect!  The designs I did this year were the Easter bunnies inspired by Just1Nail, the Easter bunny ears, and my neon jelly beans!  I cannot pick a favorite of the three!  I do wish that I was able to create a design like the past two years which incorporated the cross.  Maybe next year....
