Hey girl hey!  How are you all doing on this fine Monday?  Can you believe it, another Monday.  And, we are finally in the month of March.  I don't know why I'm saying finally, it feels like just yesterday it was Christmas.  Time is flying by fast, but it's okay, that just means more exciting things are coming our way.  Right?  I'm trying to be more optimistic in this crazy world.

Today's design is being dug out of the archives over here on The Little Canvas.  A fun mint and silver color block manicure using one of my favorite Color Club polishes.  I need to organize and start using my close to 200 new bottles of polish, but alas, life gets in the way each weekend and I get delayed. Maybe I'll take some time off of work so I can bring you new colors and new content.

  • Color Club - Blue Ming
Am I the only one who doesn't see the blue in Blue-Ming but only sees the minty green goodness?  Maybe I'm color blind.  We truly won't ever know.  What we do know is that it's a gorgeous polish which is the perfect pop of color for this manicure.  This is a popular design that people were doing a few years back with a salmon pink color.  I had to be different, especially since I think I've done the salmon one in the past.


I need to work on my free hand color blocking though.  That black line isn't as perfect as I'd like it to be.  Despite the imperfection, I do think that's what makes this design so wonderful.

The One With the Pretty Blue Color Block

Good Morning polished world!  How are you all doing on this cold, chilly Monday?  We are in the middle of a lovely snowstorm. Yesterday we had a good inch or so of icy sleet, and then now we are supposed to get snow on top of it.  I'm thanking the Lord for all wheel drive and heated seats! Makes for the longer commute to be manageable.

Since it's cold and chilly, I figured I would share my blue color block manicure I did when we had our first snowstorm in early November.  I wanted to wait to share it because I felt that it had a winter/Christmas feel because of the color pallette.  Honestly, I probably should have accented it with some snowflakes.

  • OPI - Set Apart by Tile Art
  • China Glaze - Combat Blue-Ts
  • Zoya - Dream
  • Serendipity Polish - Holoday Lights

Set Apart by Tile Art is such a wonderfully gorgeous polish by OPI.  I bought this one because I thought it was a dupe of My Boyfriend Scales Walls, but it wasn't 100% identical. What I found was something even more wonderful than my beloved My Boyfriend Scales Walls.  This polish leans towards a light blue tint versus the grey tint of MBSW.  Two coats, full coverage, and just wonderful off white that adds something unique to the manicure.


I think that if I used a regular white instead of Set Apart by Tile Art, I wouldn't have liked this manicure as much.  It blended so well with the gorgeous blue of Combat Blue-Ts and Dream.  Anyone else find that Combat Blue-Ts can be a tad difficult to work with because it dries so fast?  It's well worth the pain that it is to apply.  It looks GORGEOUS without a top coat because it has the most perfect matte finish.

The One With the ILNP Mosaic Manicure

Hello all!  How are you all doing on this wonderful Monday?  It really isn't wonderful, but I'm being optimistic that it will be.  So far we woke up to some lovely snow....again, and some lovely cold temperatures....again.  We are in third winter here.  You know, when you think Spring is actually going to happen, but then winter rears its head again leaving you nice, cold, and under a mound of snow.

Despite the awful weather, I decided to crack out my ILNP Summer polishes from last year and do something fun and bright on my nails.  After pre-ordering the whole ILNP Spring Lush collection, and a few from the Tranquility collection, I was wanting to use some of my older pretties.  These are holding me over until all my new babies arrive.  That shipment date of March 12th cannot come soon enough.

I really couldn't decide on which one of the Ultra Holos from Summer 2018 I wanted to use, therefore I decided to use all of them.  I combined them all into a fun mosaic looking manicure.  I really loved the end result.

Look at how gorgeously holographic this manicure is!  These polishes absolutely are ultra holographic.  The color is so concentrated in all of them as well!  This manicure wasn't done on a base of white like most people thought.  Nope, I started off with two coats of Sail Away as my base.  Yes, that gorgeous, turquoise beauty was the base for this manicure and all those lovely, bright colors were layered on top of it.



When my base of Sail Away was dried, I added my lines using a black acrylic.  I then started filling in the empty spaces with different polishes from the collection.  I was nervous they'd disappear over the turquoise and it was a huge risk, but it paid off so much.  Even Sundance (the green) showed up brilliantly as if it were on a white base.

The One Inspired By SamRoseNails

Good morning polished world!  How are you all doing today?  It's Tuesday but I wish it was already Friday.  The weeks are just getting longer and longer, and my rest is getting less and less.  I need a long vacation.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Since I'm tired and running off to work, my post is going to be short and sweet.  Today's manicure is inspired by SamRoseNails on Instagram.  She had the cutest mosaic looking nail art which I fell in love with as soon as I saw it.  The mint, the silver, then the nude.  It just all went together so well!  After I broke two of my nails, I thought that this design would look perfect on my shorties that I was rocking for a little bit.

Sadly, mine didn't turn out as good as hers, but I still do like them.  Let's take a look!

  • Sally Hansen - Champagne Supernova
  • Sally Hansen - Silver Stallion
My lines were so much thicker than hers which looked kind of messy and not so neat.  I love the design, but I think I just was tired and ended up blobbing the lines on the nails instead of paying attention.  It looked good on my thumb, but that's a larger canvas which helps things out a bit.

Flower Crown is a gorgeous mint polish which I received last year in a giveaway.  I never win anything, so when Jessica Cosmetics contacted me saying that I won the Gypsy Collection, I was happy as could be!  Then the collection got put on the back burner and I haven't used any of the polishes until now.  I'm a slacker, I know.



This view of the manicure I like better than the other photo.  Probably should just delete the other photo and pretend it didn't happen.  I switched up the manicure a bit and instead of doing two of the mint/teal nails I did a silver accent to match the silver on the design nail.  Not sure if I lied that silver nail, but after showing it to my friend she prefered it.  Who knows, she might have just said it to be nice!

The One With the Mosaic Looking Nail Art

Good morning polished world!  How are you all doing today?  It's Labor Day here in the states, so that means that I have the day off from work.  My plans for the day, sleep, sleep, and more sleep.  Then I should be all rested and ready to return to work on Tuesday.

Today's manicure is a fun, swirly mosaic color block looking design I did a few weeks ago.  I was feeling uninspired and came across a similar look on Pinterest.  Since it had been forever since I did a mosaic looking design, I jumped on the opportunity.

  • ORLY - Scenic Route
  • OPI - My Boyfriend Scales Walls
  • OPI - You're Such a Budapest
  • OPI - I Believe in Manicures
Cute, right??  It's a super simple look to re-create too!  First, you start off with a base of white polish.  I used My Boyfriend Scales Walls since I thought it was the most neutral white.  Not too bright, and not too dark.  When that base was dried, I took a black acrylic paint and outlined my color blocks.  I then colored in the empty spaces with different colored polishes.  When those were dry, I went through with the black acrylic and cleaned up the lines a little more.

The Beauty Buffs - Color Block

Good morning everyone!  How are you all on this fine Wednesday.   I apologize that I was unable to post with the Twinsies yesterday for Twinsie Tuesday.  I hate when I have to miss a post, but when life gets crazy, there really aren't any other options.

I am here today though posting with The Beauty Buffs!  This week we are talking all about color blocking!  I love color block manicures!  I've tried to do them numerous times the past few months, and they were great until I went and applied my top coat.  I had a goopy bottle so it dragged the paint and ruined my crisp lines.  I never photographed them because I was just too embarrassed.  They literally came off two seconds after I completed them.

Finally after purchasing a new bottle of top coat, I was able to create an awesome color block manicure.  I'm really happy with how it turned out!  Let's take a look!




Colors Used:
  • OPI - My Boyfriend Scales Walls
  • Faby - Plastic Jewels and Neon Lights
  • Faby - Sakiko's Time
I really love the colors I used for this color block manicure.  A few weeks ago, I received some polishes from Faby.  Faby is a company out of Italy which is new to the United States.  I've used Black is Black numerous times and love it, so I was excited to start using the colored polishes they sent me!

These two did not disappoint.  Plastic Jewels and Neon Lights is such a fun, bright turquoise cream polish, and Sakiko's Time is a gorgeous purple, grey cream.  The two polishes compliment each other perfectly.  Now, you know me, my primary concern is if the polishes are good for nail art.  My verdict for these Faby's: they're awesome!!  I used my nail art brush to fill in the empty spaces for the color block.  Both were very opaque and applied evenly.  I didn't have a problem with them drying too fast, so when I pulled my tape off, I didn't have any little strings left behind! 



I really love Sakiko's Time.  It's such a unique shade of purple that my collection was really lacking.  I can't wait to use it as a base for some Winter manicures.  Can you believe I'm already talking about Winter manicures??

Twinsie Tuesday: Summer Lovin

Hello polished world!  It's Tuesday, which means it's time for another Twinsie Tuesday.  Sadly, some Twinsies have left over the past few weeks, but we are welcoming back not only some old Twinsie's but new ones as well!  If you remember, last week we welcomed backed Cordia.  This week, we are welcoming Bridget from A Painted Nail, and Jessica from Blue Velvet Lacquer.  Now, I'm not 100% positive if Bridget and Jessica will be posting this week since it's all kind of new, but regardless, head on over to their blogs and check them out!

This week our theme is Summer Loving!  I was excited when I saw this prompt since the manicure options are endless.  I decided to do something fun and bright, aka use all the neons!  While I've been known to wear my neon polishes in the winter, they get the most use in the summer time.

For today's neon manicure, I was inspired by this manicure by my fellow Beauty Buff Lindsay from Nail That Accent.  I just loved the neon mosaic and had to copy it.  Instead of doing the design as an accent, I decided to go crazy and mosaic all my nails.

Don't they look awesome?!  I'm seriously in LOVE with this manicure.  I have done mosaic designs in the past, but they did not come out as good as this one!  Reason this one rock; I tried a new technique thanks to Lindsay's Instagram tutorial!  Whenever I created this look, I would start off with a base coat of white polish.  When my base was dried, I would take a black striper and create the mosaic outline.  Then I would fill in the empty space, then go back over the black outline to clean up the edges.

How Lindsay did it was pure genius and so much easier!  She started out with a base coat, then created the color blocks on the white nail without the outline.  When the colors were all on the nail, she then went through and outlined each individual area.  It was sooooooooo much easier this way and my lines were a million times neater!



The color combination was pure genius also.  I was debating on adding a neon blue, but am super happy I didn't add that into the mix.  I think it would have taken away from the bright neon.  And boy are these nails bright.  I wish I could have truly captured the brightness, but as you ladies know, photographing a neon is near to impossible.

Accent Nail

Zoya Hudson, Rebel, and Seraphina Nail Art

Happy Sunday, or as I want to call it, Happy Stupid Daylight Savings Day for those who are affected by it.  Worst time of the year is when we have to Spring forward and forgo that hour of sleep.  I'm all for daylight savings in the Fall when we gain an hour, but this Spring one is awful and it takes me a bit to get used to.  A good thing about it though, is that Spring is right around the corner!  Well, hopefully.  I think we're supposed to get snow again but hopefully it will be the last time.

Even if the weather isn't saying that Spring is right around the corner, the polish companies sure are!  This is one of my favorite times of the year when it comes to polish collections.  So many pastels!  Blues, purples, mints...oh how I love it!  A week or so ago I received the Zoya Awaken collection and I literally tripped over myself to take the mani I had on off my nails and start playing with these pretty babies.

I immediately gravitated towards Hudson and Rebel, the purple and blue shimmers of the collection.  I swatched Hudson on my pointer and Rebel on my middle and decided that there needed to be some sort of accent which incorporated the two.  I grabbed my bottle of Seraphina from the Zenith collection since it had a similar shimmer finish and got to work.

Before I get to how I did this manicure, or why I decided to go with a stained glass color block accent, I must talk about how GORGEOUS Hudson and Rebel are.  Hudson is a purple orchid polish with a silver metallic shimmer.  It applied like a dream and I had full coverage in two coats.  I decided to go for three coats with this manicure because I really loved the purple and wanted an extra burst of color.  Rebel is a blue sky polish with a silver metallic shimmer.  Just like Hudson, it applied like a dream and I had full coverage in two coats.  I decided to keep this one at two coats for the manicure because the color was saturated enough and I was scared if I did three that I would overpower the purple.  Since both polishes have that silver shimmer, Seraphina was an obvious choice to pair them with.  I used three coats of Seraphina because I find this one to be a tad sheer.  It's not awful with 2 coats, you most certainly could get away with it, but I think when next to bright beauties like Hudson and Rebel, it really has to pop.

The silver shimmer in both Hudson and Rebel is just gorgeous.  They're not like your typical metallic polishes and they aren't your typical shimmer polishes.  They're somewhat of a hybrid of both.  A couple people actually asked me what top coat I used to get the effect because they didn't think it was part of the actual polish.  They dried sort of like a satin polish in my opinion, they weren't overly shiny but they weren't dull.  They were just gorgeous.

Overall, the manicure is gorgeous in my opinion.  I went with the stained glass color block look because after I put some dots on top of Seraphina, I thought to myself "Goodness, these would look good as a color block."  I removed my dots, and took my Orly Instant Artist striper and added some random lines across the nail.  When the lines were dry, I used my dotting tool to add the color where I wanted it.  Then I went back through with my striper to even some lines out.  You an see where I messed up a little but oh well, from a distance you couldn't tell.  Regardless, who was looking at the accent when the other nails were so pretty!?

Simple Color Block Manicure

Good morning polished world!  How are you today?  I'm doing FANTASTIC since this weekend I received over 1,000 new Likes on my Facebook page!  I still cannot get over it!  It seems that my new followers came as part of other lovely bloggers sharing my page using the #sharethelove tag!  Truly, I'm feeling the love and am planning to pay it forward and share some pages!  Thank you so much to those who shared and liked my page!

Today I'm bringing you a quick post as this weeks schedule is weird and I didn't want to leave you guys without a manicure until Friday (tomorrow I have a different-ish post for Twinsie Tuesday).  So we have a very simple manicure as I've been feeling uninspired lately.  It happens, everyone gets into a ditch, but you slowly find your groove again.  This simple color block manicure kind of helped to get me out of my rut.  It surely reminded me how much I love color block manicures and how much I neglect them in my nail artist life.

Kind of modern looking, right?!  I started off with a base coat of Orly in Liquid Vinyl, you know, my favorite black polish.  As my base was drying, I opened up my Melmer drawers and sat looking at my stash.  What color was I going to put on top of this black?  Pink, purple, yellow?  Should I do a neon skittle?!  There were so many choices, then I saw it, my new bottle of China Glaze Too Yacht to Handle.  All I could think of was how awesome this color would pop off the black base.

When my nails were dried, I took my nail art tape and created the upside down L shape on my nail.  I could have used my painters tape, but my nails weren't completely dry and I knew that it would have taken the black right off.  Nail art tape seems to be less sticky.  When I had my tape placed where I wanted, I painted in Too Yacht to Handle then removed the tape.


I really loved how these turned out!  At first, one of my co-workers thought that the black was really navy, which then made us both realize how awesome this manicure would have looked with a navy base!  Regardless, I love how the bright just pops.  Imagine neon purple....goodness!  I need to color block some more!

 Now that I look at it, it reminds me of the color block that Gwen has for her OPI collection!  Seriously never realized that until now as I was writing the post.  Marketing at it's finest!!!

OPI You're Such a Budapest with Color Club Eternal Beauty

Well hello there everyone!  How are you today?  Can I tell you how happy I am that it's Saturday!?  It has been quite a long week.  I think it felt this way due to how it all started.  I'm just ready to spend the weekend sleeping in, resting, painting, blogging, crafting more Pinterest crafts, and being thankful for everything I have. 

Today's manicure was yet another one that got lost in the drafts folder here on blogger.  I really should start blogging every other day because I keep finding all these manicures I did and am having a tough time picking which I should post first.  This one won tonight because it's purple and holo, and well who doesn't love that?!

I got the idea for this manicure after being inspired by this pin which is of a manicure by Pshiiit polish.  I fell in love with the cream grey polish accented with the the silver holo.  I needed to have some form of this manicure on my nails right away!  Since I didn't have a gorgeous silver holo like Pshiiit used, I opted for the beautiful purple holo that is Eternal Beauty by Color Club.  I grabbed a bottle of lavender polish and got started!

Really pretty, right?!  I started off with a base coat of OPI Youre Such a Budapest which is a gorgeous lavender polish with a very subtle shimmer.  It's application was decent.  You could get away with two coats, but I used three to even out some random bald spots I had.  It was worth it though because the color is just gorgeous.

When the base was dried, I took my nail art brush and on black lines.  I then filled in the areas I wanted to with Eternal Beauty using a nail art brush.  When the holo was dried, I went back through with the nail art brush and cleaned up the black lines.

I love how the holo looked against the cream base.  The black line was kind of striking in between.  I was originally going to use a dark purple cream polish but I hated how it looked on the one nail I tried it on.  Only problem I had with the manicure was that I wish my lines were a little straighter and cleaner.  I may need to try this again with an Orly Instant Artist striper and see if I can get a better result.  This manicure was done before I received the Nail Art Society Kit which included those polishes.  Which by the way, I will be holding a contest soon where the prize is a set of those polishes!!!!  I need to work out the kinks with that still, expect it in the next few weeks!!!

Color Block Mani

Stained Glass Heart Manicure

I had another tragedy.  Yes, I broke the same nail that I broke before doing my last manicure.  This time though, there was no saving the length, all nails needed to be nubbed.  It was okay in the end since my nails were kind of in bad shape and peeling and could have used a drastic trim down.  So, I grabbed my clippers and chopped everything down.

I was kind of bummed about the length, especially since before the last break my nails were perfect.  I debated about not painting them and just leaving them naked until they grew out, but I couldn't bring myself to do so.  I started looking for short nail art ideas, and I remembered Magnifique Nails who has shorter nails which ALWAYS look amazing.  She is so talented.  After scrolling around her blog, I found this manicure.  Now, I knew I couldn't copy it exactly how she did since I'm not that talented, so I took my own little spin on it.  I'm happy with how they turned out.

  • Zoya - Josie, Micky, Darcy, Thandie, and Rocky
  • Orly - Liquid Vinyl
  • OPI - My Boyfriend Scales Walls
Nubby, nubs which were colorful and cute.  I love working with the Zoya Stunning collection since they are such full colored creams.  They are also super easy to work with when using dotting tools or toothpicks to fill in small areas like on these nails.  I wasn't sure that I would get a lot of use out of Josie, but it is quickly become one of my favorite green polishes.  It's the perfect leaf/grass color, and well as a nail artist who enjoys flower manicures, this is a must have.  I have so many ideas for the other polishes too, but I'm waiting for summer to tick on a little more before I do so.

To get the look, I basically what I did for my color block nails.  I started off with a base coat of white polish.  Since my pure white is goopy, I used OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls since it is a pretty decent one coat polish.  I didn't worry if it was streaky in some areas since I was planning on totally covering the base with the colors.

With my nail art brush and black polish, I painted on the "stained glass" outlines.  Then, with my dotting tool, I filled in the white spaces like a coloring book.  When the colors were completely dried, I went back over the black lines with a nail art brush to make them stand out and clean up any overflow from the color dotting.

I still see my color block nails to be a tad messy.  I'm hoping with more practice the lines become neater.  It definitely takes a steady hand and some patience.  Seriously, I think to do both hands, this manicure took at least an hour and a half.  After the 45 minutes of doing my left hand, I really didn't want to do my right hand. I should probably start painting both hands at the same time instead of doing one hand completely then moving on. hmmm.

Free Hand Color Block Nail Art Tutorial

Oh hello, posting on a day I normally don't.  Is this going to throw off my OCD?  Well we shall see.  Tutorials I guess are a breed of their own.  Maybe from now on I'll include a tutorial with each post?? hmmm.

After I posted my Tiger Tutorial on Instagram, @aydixiii stated I should make more tutorials like it.  I asked her which she would like to see, and she picked my free hand color block nail art, as shown below!  So, my wish was her command!!!  Let's take a look!!



  1. First step is to paint your nails a base coat of white polish.  For my manicure, I used two coats of Ulta - Snow White.
  2. With a nail art brush, striper, or toothpick, draw on the outline of the color block.  I used a nail art brush and Orly Liquid Vinyl.
  3. Pick as many colors as you want to fill in the white space.  With a dotting tool or nail art brush, fill in the white space leaving as much of the outline as possible.  Notice the uneven black edges in the 3rd picture, it is supposed to be that way.  The base black is an outline for the color block, not your final lines.
  4. With the nail art brush, striper, or toothpick, go back over the original black lines.  This will clean up the edges and give your manicure a more color blocked look.  Add a top coat, clean your edges, and viola   Done!
Even though I am obsessed with tape manicures, I really enjoyed doing this manicure by hand.  With more practice, my lines will be straighter, and I hope that one day I can make it look like I did accomplish it with tape.  If you are wanting to do this manicure with tape, I would start by painting your base coat whatever color you want your line to be, then place the tape on the nail, then dot in the color.  This is the technique I use when I do my checkerboard nails.  To me, both look different, and I prefer how the lines overlap the color block on this, instead of the color kind of sticking above the tape design, if that makes sense.
