The Little Canvas: Tape Mani

Hey everyone!! We are almost to the end of 2020, and boy oh boy was this year a crazy ride. While many people are saying 2020 was the worst year ever, I'm trying my best to look at the positive of the year instead of the negative. As you know, I work in healthcare and faced numerous challenges. Despite the challenges, struggles, and hardships, the residents at my facility remained happy, healthy, and safe. What more could anyone ask for? There were many lessons learned and at the end of it all, I'm a stronger person because of it all. I truly hope that whoever is reading this looks at the negative in their life and tries to find one positive, and rise from the ashes.

Anyways, I could go on and on about that all day, but you are here to see the nails. Today's manicure is a kitchen sink manicure for New Years Eve. Every year I always grab my silver or gold holographics and do something fun. To be completely honest with you, my New Years manicures are 9 times out of 10 my favorite of the whole year. Today's design is no exception.

Two polishes, one fabulous manicure. Each time I look at the manicure I love it even more. The gradient using Versailles is perfect, because it's a perfect polish! Two coats and full coverage of this gorgeous light gold holographic. To me, this polish is the gold sister of Mega X, my favorite silver holographic polish from ILNP. You might be seeing that polish make an appearance for my final manicure of 2020.

I just love how the pinkie and index finger turned out. The gradient was so perfect that it looked like little fireworks or glitter bombs coming from my cuticles. Then the laser tape design just pulls it all together. I was going to keep my middle finger blank, but you know me and my polka dots. I can't leave well enough alone. Plus, it looked a little naked with everything else crazy going on with the manicure.

If I don't get my next post up before the New Year, I want to wish everyone who is reading this a very Happy and Blessed 2021. End this year on a positive note. You made it through a pandemic, you didn't let the world take you down. Let's all make a resolution to look at the positive and find one thing each day to be grateful for. Release all your expectations you have about 2021, and just focus on each day. Every single day that we are given is a major blessings. Look at it like that. If we go into this New Year looking at the negative and having a victim mentality, then that's how we are going to perceive every day. So instead of letting that happen, be the winner, be positive, and just kick 2020 to the curb and take 2021 by storm! Please be happy, healthy, and safe.

And as always, thank you for sticking with me. I know I went on some hiatuses because life got crazy, but I am so grateful for the ability to come back like I was never gone. I love every single one of you.

The One With the ILNP Mega X Tape Manicure

Good morning Polished World! Welcome to March! Can you believe that the first two months of the year are already gone? To be honest, I feel like January and February always fly right on by, then March and April draaaag. That's because Spring is around the corner and I just want winter to end, but of course, it won't. Mark my words, we will get another snow storm and possibly one ice storm before Spring.

Well since I did only pink nails last month, it's time for a little black, white, and silver manicure to refresh the blog so to speak. I always need a little cleanse after I stick to certain colors, and for me the best way to do that is with these shades. Of course, that means using my favorite polishes ever.

Isn't this amazing? I absolutely LOVE Mega X and how it looks underneath black and white polish! These tape manicures are something that I have loved creating for ages, and this one is no exception. A year ago, I created this manicure where I used literally 100 pieces of tape to create the most perfect, awesome, X shaped tape manicure. Since that manicure took forever to create, I didn't want to re-create it today, so I opted for the random zig zag look. Looking back, I can't believe it was a year ago that I did that other manicure.

Anyways, just like the other manicure, Mega X truly shines under those black and white polishes. The silver holographic is so strong that it truly gives the whole manicure a different dimension. To get the look, I started with a base coat of Mega X. I then went through and randomly added the tape almost in "Star" patterns. You know, those stars you messily doodled as a kid on your notes in school? That's what I was kind of going for. Every nail mastered it except the index finger, not sure what happened there.

The One Where I Used 100 Pieces of Nail Art Tape - And ILNP Mega X

Good morning polished world! How are you all doing today?? Valentine's Day is over. It's snowing, again. We are into second winter here. You know, where you think winter is over, but then it comes back in full force. I think we will have about 6 or so inches when all is said and done today. Not a huge amount of snow, but still, it's snow.

Since Valentine's Day is over, I'm going to delay on posting my manicure I wore on that dreaded day, and share one of my all time favorite manicures. It's beyond perfect. Now, this manicure took me forever to do and I think that's why I've been procrastinating on posting it. Why did it take me so long? Well because I used nail art tape....not a stencil.

Yes.....you read that right. Tape was used, not a stencil. Ten pieces of tape, per nail. Ten nails, times ten pieces of tape equals 100 little pieces of nail art tape were used to do both my right and left hand. I know some bloggers only paint the hand they photograph, but not me. My OCD doesn't allow me to just paint one hand.

Despite all that hard work, this manicure was so worth it! Just look at it! Mega X is by far my favorite holographic silver polish. Barbara hit it out of the park with that one. I need to get another bottle next time I do an ILNP order. It looked GORGEOUS underneath the black and white tape design.

I cannot wait for my nails to start growing out so I create another design like this. The winter has been so hard on my nails no matter what type of cuticle oils or lotions I've used. Now that it's second winter, I'm not seeing any end in site. Sigh.

The One With the Black, White, and Silver Manicure

Good morning polished world! How are you all doing today? It's Friday, which feels like a Wednesday. I'm telling you, this whole four day weekend I took has just thrown me right off. It threw off one of my coworkers too. She was walking down the hall looking at me going "Am I working tomorrow? What day is this?" Holidays....they truly are something else. And we aren't done yet, New Years is next week and that's going to throw all of us off again!!

Not going to lie, I have yet to start any New Years designs. I don't even know if I'm going to get around to doing so, but I hope I can. Before Christmas, I did this fun silver striped heart manicure which because of the color scheme has a nice little New Years feel. On my nails now which won't be posted until January sometime has a similar color scheme because it literally is one of my favorites. How can you go wrong with black, white, and holo silver?

All my favorite polishes in my favorite color scheme together. As you all know, I have a huge love for Serendipity Polish. My beautiful fast dry, one coat creams. They work wonderfully for tape manicures like on my ring finger. Nothing is better than being able to paint a coat on of a polish, add tape almost immediately, and add only one coat of the top polish and remove the tape and have that clean and perfect of a result. I really wasn't sure I wanted to add the heart because the striping was so perfect!

Holoday Lights is the best accent for this manicure. Love my silver holo glitter so much. I'm so happy that I have two bottles of this one. Ignore the fact I have dozens of holo silver glitters, I always go to Holoday Lights.

The One With the Snowflakes and Candy Cane Nail Art

Good morning polished world!! How are you doing today? It's Wednesday, middle of the week, so close but still so far from Christmas. I just painted my next Christmas manicure and I'm not feeling it, but we will talk about it on that post. I'm just annoyed by it so I had to mention it here!

Anyways, today's manicure I did like but it didn't photograph 100% how I wanted it to. Mainly because the green was gorgeously dark that it photographed almost to be black. It matched the candy cane dress I wore to a work Christmas event perfectly though, and the dress was a lighter green. My camera just loves me so much sometimes.

I cheated using an ORLY when reviewing Sally Hansen Miracle Gels, but I don't own a Miracle Gel in white!! Does that even exist? If it does, I need to get my hands on it!!!

Let's talk about Jealous Boyfriend by Sally Hansen. GORGEOUS dark green polish which covered completely in two coats. Absolutely am in love with this color and am kicking myself that it didn't photograph perfectly. It's so brilliant and I am so happy to have this polish in my collection.

Can't Beet Royalty is a gorgeous red, and I don't say that much about red polish. Only one coat over the tape to get the candy cane look. As you can see, it didn't even bleed under the tape, which means it's amazingly perfect for nail art.

The One with Sally Hansen Smartease and Metro Midnight

Good morning polished world! How are you all doing today? I could have sworn that yesterday was Thursday, but of course, it wasn't. It's weird, because everyone I talked to felt the same way. Odd how that happened. Alas, here we are and it's Thursday, not Friday. Guess we should talk nails.

Today is my last post for the Sunset Splash collection from Sally Hansen! I think I saved the best for last too. Smartease and Metro Midnight are the pink and purple from the collection. Although I kind of can see Metro Midnight being a dark pink/purple. You can be the judge of that part, all I know is that it's a holographic polish. Yes, that's right, a mainstream brand has released a holographic, and guess what, it's just as good as an indie!

Let's take a look!

Smartease is a pale pink polish which covered completely in two coats. Normally I'm not a huge fan of pink nails, but this one I did like. In my opinion, it's not that summery of a polish, I see it more being a Spring shade. Paired with Metro Midnight though, it does get that summery vibe.

Metro Midnight......just......no words people....no words. Look how amazingly gorgeous that is?! Two coats on my index finger and used for the tape design. The holo effect is so strong in this baby! I really felt like I was using one of my ILNP or Serendipity Polish holographics. Speaking of which, this is actually a recreation of a design I did using my Serendipity holographic polish last year!

St. Patrick's Day

The One With the Plaid St. Patrick's Day Design

Good morning polished world! How are you all doing today? I apologize for the later post today, but posting totally skipped my mind. It was a crazy week at work which exhausted me. I honestly could say that about any and all weeks. Who knows, maybe one day being an adult won't be so tiring.

As promised I'm going to start my St. Patrick's Day manicures. I wasn't 100% ready to go all out with the shamrocks quite yet, so I went for a simple plaid design. I always tend to forget about my green polishes unless it's March or December, and I hate that I do that because I always come across such beauties that I need to use more.

Ahhhh Zoya Rikki, what a LOVELY polish! Two coats and you have a beautiful green shimmer with gold flecks throughout. This polish I believe is from the Irresistable Collection which came out yeaaaarss ago. That tells you that Zoya's polishes hold up, because I really think this one is about four years old, if not five.

Really loving it paired with Tomoko. The plaid design was super easy once I got the tape placed on my nail just how I wanted it. That's always the hardest part.

The One With the Fishtail Tape Manicure

Good morning polished world and Happy Monday! Not sure why I didn't bring you all a post yesterday other than I was extremely lazy and didn't feel like typing one up. I really should type the posts when I edit the photos, but seeing as I edit about 4 manicures at one time, then that means I'd be editing and writing 4 posts in the same night. That's just a lot of work. Oh well.

Today's design is one I did shortly after I stopped doing Christmas manicures. You know, since I have that lovely backlog that I don't get around to posting. The other issue with me not writing my blogs when I edit my photos - I forget the colors of the polishes in the post. Which I'm blanking at the moment right now. Anyways, here's a cute fishtail tape design!

Just spent ten minutes Googling the colors that I used because I knew what collections they were from, just not the names. Better than nothing though, am I right? Granite is one of my all time favorite grey polishes so that one I didn't have to Google. Same with Sterling Sculpture. That is my favorite silver glitter polish. So happy I have two bottles.

The One With the Purple and Silver Tape Manicure

Good morning polished world and Happy Sunday! Hope you all are doing well today. The weather here is starting to level out. It's no longer below zero, but honestly it feels colder to me when it's 40 degrees and the snow is melting. That dampness is just awful. Constant chills. And no, I do not have the flu, I'm just always cold.

Today's manicure is one I did actually right before I started my Christmas nails. I probably could have posted it in the beginning of December and said it was like a present themed design, but to me it really was more tribal. The colors though have that December present look. Really though, it works any time in the winter.

INM - Futuristic Fantasy
OPI - This Crown Needs a Gown

Futuristic Fantasy by INM is such a gorgeous royal purple color. Is royal purple even a thing? Seriously though, to me it's the royal blue of purples. Two coats and full coverage. The shine is incredible! Maybe it's because I added a top coat of Out the Door, but it truly is one of the shiniest polishes that I own.

It dried super fast so I was able to do the tape design without having to wait a long time for my base to dry. I applied the tape pieces (which was a pain for this design) and added my favorite silver polish - This Crown Needs a Gown. I need to go to a discount store and see if they have any of these lying around. The easier option would be for OPI to re-introduce it.

The One With OPI I Can Never Hut Up

Good morning polished world! How are you all doing today?? We are supposed to get 2 feet of snow this weekend, so you know, I'm just trying to let that sink in. It's 55 degrees today, and by Saturday we are going to have two feet of snow. The weather is so weird!

Today's manicure is a semi bright manicure which still has a winter feel because of the grey polish. I've seen a lot of diagonal tape manicures lately all over Instagram and I've been wanting to do one and combine colors that I normally wouldn't. Of course grey came to mind because I never use that color. Once I picked the grey, the mint was an obvious choice....you'll see why after we take a look!

So, I picked ORLY Vintage to go underneath I Can Never Hut Up because this polish by OPI has a subtle mint shimmer to it. It's really a gorgeous grey polish which I had to have when I saw it on display at Sally Beauty. Two thin coats covered over the mint perfectly. If you can get your hands on this polish, I highly recommend it!

The One With the New Year's Eve Manicure

Good morning polished world and Happy New Year's Eve!!! Can you believe that 2017 has come and gone?! I honestly cannot believe it. Now I need to do a December Monthly Mani Favs post, followed by a 2017 re-cap post of all my favorites from the year. Jeez I have a lot of work on this blog to do today. I'll obviously be posting those two posts in the next few days.

Today's manicure is a re-creation of my 2015 New Year's Eve manicure. I loved the design so much and actually forgot about it until I was looking to see what I had done before. After searching forever for a design I liked, my mind kept going back to this design. Therefore, I had to re-create it.

Isn't it wonderful?? I think when I created the manicure originally, I just randomly placed the tape on the nail and in the end it turned out looking like a star. Can I tell you it took forever to lay the tape just right to make it look like a star again?? Finally was able to re-create it not once, but four times since I had this design on both my ring fingers and thumb.

I love this black and gold combo so much. Topping FingerPaints Golden Glaze with Sunshine Rainbow was a wonderful idea. The holo and gold flecks mixed together with the foiled golden polish really gave it a true New Year's Eve feel.

The One Inspired by Coffee and Nail Polish

Good morning polished world! How are you all doing today?? It's Tuesday which means my work week has started and I'm already looking forward to Friday. Actually work wasn't too bad yesterday. I distracted myself from my actual job by decorating two of our four Christmas trees. All four have been decorated by little ol' me and I kind of don't want to see another Christmas ornament again. That's four 7.5 foot trees, three strands of 100 count lights on each, and 96 ornaments on each. Yes, I went overboard, but the resident's love it.

Today's design is one I did awhile ago and it got lost in the draft posts here on The Little Canvas. This manicure was inspired by the wonderful Shannon from Coffee and Nail Polish. It's a fun gradient tape with my favorite colors...purple and blue!

Isn't it the most perfect manicure ever?! The tape designs took awhile to do because I didn't have any stencils, so I placed every single piece of tape where you are seeing the white. When i had the tape how I liked it, which took forever with my OCD, I painted the three OPI polishes onto the sponge in a random pattern and applied it to the nail. I then quickly removed the tape and got the lovely look.

Now, my advice with this type of manicure - wait a solid 10 minutes before applying top coat! If you apply too soon, the gradient will smudge into the white areas!

The One With the Pink Holo Tape Manicure

Good morning polished world! How are you all doing today?? It's Thursday meaning our week is almost over and Saturday is right around the corner. I've started doing some Halloween manicures, but I won't have them up on the blog until probably this weekend. Every year I try to challenge myself to do new designs, and so far I've recreated one that I did last year. We will see how many new ones I end up coming up with.

Today instead of sharing that Halloween design, I thought I would share a pink holo tape manicure I did using some of my Serendipity Polish. Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I thought it was fitting to share a pink manicure right from the beginning. Sure, I probably should have posted it on Monday, but I wasn't thinking and ended up sharing the yellow flowers. Oh well.

Two beautiful polishes from the Selfmade Babe collection which I didn't get when it originally came out. Kind of kicking myself that I waited until the store was closing to buy them because they truly are amazing polishes. I Close Deals in Heels (totally something I can relate to) is a gorgeous dusty pink polish which covers in one coat. I used two coats because I tend to do that regardless. Super fast drying with no bubbles.

Girl Pwr is by far one of the best holographic polishes I own. Two coats for full coverage. Worked amazing for nail art as you can see by the dots and the tape design. The holo effect was strong in every type of lighting. Truly an amazing polish and I kind of hate gushing about it because you guys can't get your hands on it. I'm actually kind of mad that I can't get a back up bottle.

The One With the ORLY Gradient Tape Manicure

Good morning polished world! Welcome to Tuesday, the beginning of a new, busy work week. I would have had this post up yesterday, but we had a lovely night of thunderstorms, which knocked my power out, which led me to not sleep, which meant I didn't get around to blogging at all. I'm also at the end of my edited posts, so I really need to get my booty in gear and start working on this blog again. I think I have six posts that need to be worked on? Who knows....

Today's design is one I did a loooong time ago. I honestly think I painted it back in March. Yup, that's how long it sat in the drafts, waiting to be published. The pictures were on my old laptop, and finally I pulled them over to the new laptop to edit. Long story short, I stink at posting.

This manicure is a fun gradient, tape design using some of my favorite ORLY polishes. Let's see if I can remember the names....

Isn't it wonderfully sparkly?? You all already know about my love for Mirrorball. When Sally Beauty discontinued it, I literally bought 5 back up bottles because I was scared that ORLY themselves were discontinuing it. Luckily, I can still get it from ORLY if worse came to worse, but I'm still on my original bottle, meaning that the 5 back ups have yet to be open. I've owned my original bottle for over a year, it's three quarters gone, and it still applies as if the bottle was brand new. That's what I love about ORLY, you really can use the polish until the bitter end.

One more shot so you can see that gorgeous gradient. I love how well it blended together. Such beautiful, opaque colors perfect for blending gradients. I was surprised how well they applied over Mirrorball too with the tape design. I wasn't sure if it would look as good as it did over the plain pink nail, but it did. You would have never guessed that it was over just Mirrorball alone.

The One With the Morgan Taylor Tape Manicure

Good morning polished world! How are you all doing today?? Fourth of July has come and gone. I still haven't shared my June's monthly mani favorites. I think I'm going to combine June and July because now I think it's just too late to start sharing now. Maybe it isn't and I'm overthinking, but whatever. June and July combo it will be. If I remember.

After all that red, white, and blue, I needed a neutral manicure. You know, something simple that just takes all the color away and really refreshes your manicured mind. I also feel like I haven't done a neutral design in awhile so it was well overdue.

Plumette With Excitement is from the Morgan Taylor Beauty and the Beast collection. A true beautiful nude pink polish. Two coats and full coverage. I was a little nervous that it wouldn't cover the black well for the tape manicure, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The One With the OPI Tape Manicure

Hello polished world! It's a Tuesday, yes I know, I failed at doing a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday post this week. I have a good excuse though....work is super busy. Okay, it's not the greatest excuse, but my mind was kind of pre-occupied with a renovation that we are doing that I forgot about the blog. And then I went into work and one of the kitties that we have needs to be put down. So you know, it's all around a busy, mind filled time.

Today I'm sharing a fun tape gradient manicure that I did a few weeks ago. I don't know what it is, but I love when I have blue nails. I always end up starring at them and honestly, I can't explain it, I just can't ever stop looking at them. This manicure was no exception.

OPI - I Believe in Manicures

OPI makes such wonderful blue polishes. Every time they have a blue in their collection, I run out and grab it because I have yet to have a bad one. I really didn't need I Believe in Manicures since I have about 10 different blues in that light pastel shade, but since it was an OPI one, I told myself I needed it. I'm honestly kicking myself that I didn't grab another bottle because it really is quite gorgeous. On it's own it covers in two coats. I was a little nervous that it wasn't going to sponge or show up well on top of My Pal Joey, but it did a great job. No problems, easy peasy, pretty mani.

My Pal Joey is one of my all time favorite blue polishes. I do have back ups of this pretty, yet I still don't wear it because I don't think that two bottles is enough. It's a great pedicure polish in the summer with a holo top coat. Covers perfectly in two coats. And dries super fast so I was able to do this fun tape design.

You know, the fun tape design that took me forever to do. A lot of bloggers are now using nail vinyl stencils which you just place this design over the nail, but I don't own any of those so I had to go the old fashioned route....nail art tape. That's right, each line was done using a strand of tape. My OCD needed them to be perfect, and I think I did a pretty dang good job.

Sally Hansen #ColorOfTheMoment For March - A Month Late

Hi all and Happy Monday!!! I don't know why I said Happy Monday because honestly there is nothing happy about Monday's. Unless you don't work a full time job, then it's really happy. Then it is just another day. I'm hoping today is a good work day, we shall see though. I can go in with my day planned out minute but minute and then something happens and none of what I planned gets accomplished.

Anyways, the other day I posted that I was invited to be a part of the Sally Hansen #ColorOfTheMoment program where I will be sent the latest color trends to share with you! Now, last month was super crazy for me. I received the Color of the Moment package, and my power went out for five days. No polishing, no photos, no editting, everything kind of went crazy and I fell super behind.

The other day when I was posting my Color of the Moment manicure for April, I found these in the draft folder never published. And that my friends is what happens when your life is thrown upside down due to lack of power.

Have I ever mentioned how wonderful the Complete Salon Manicure line is? To me, it is right on par with the Miracle Gel line. I know some people have mixed emotions with both collections, but for me, they work super well and don't chip quickly. Maybe it's my nail chemistry, but I can get at least 5 days out of a mani using the Complete Salon Manicure line or the Miracle Gel Line.

These polishes are absolutely gorgeous. Gilty Party covered completely in two coats. Dried fast so I was able to throw the tape on right away. When I had my tape on how I liked it, I painted two thin coats over the nail and removed the tape. Commander in Chic is I think one of my new favorite shades. It's just a gorgeous neutral taupe which can be used alongside so many different colors.

The One With the Floral Manicure Inspired by Paulina's Passion

Good morning polished world! How are you all doing today?? It's Monday which means it is the start to another fun filled work week. Hopefully it won't be as busy as last week, but I highly doubt that. I apologize for not getting a post up yesterday but it completely slipped my mind. I was out late and forgot to schedule a post. Time just ticks away from me.

Anyways, today's manicure is one that I have been wanting to do for quite some time. After finding a beautiful purple negative space floral rose manicure by Paulina's Passion on Pinterest, I pinned it to my Nail Ideas board and sat on it for quite some time. I loved the look, wanted to attempt it, but really did not have the courage to do so. I didn't think it would look right on my nails at all, my roses would be messed up, and it just all around would be a disaster.

After months of procrastinating and refusing to attempt the design, I finally gathered the courage and tried it. And guess what, it wasn't a disaster at all!

Isn't it gorgeous? I cannot believe how much I love this manicure. I was super proud of myself too when I completed it and had no smudges, perfect lines, and rather decent roses. The hardest part of the whole manicure was the tape. The easy part was that I just had to apply a base coat and then the tape since it's a negative space manicure. The hard part; lining all the tape up. My OCD was really testing me with this manicure. I'm so proud of myself for getting all the lines rather straight and evenly spaced on all the nails.

The roses on top really completed the look. I'm so happy I stumbled across this design and that I finally re-created it on my own nails. Thanks to the FingerPaints Gel Like Base Coat, I was able to enjoy this manicure for five days before I finally took it off. And honestly, it could have gone another day or so because there were absolutely no chips. I'm in love with that base coat now.
